Alright, so the other day, I wanted to get a few rounds of “League of Legends” in. I’ve been playing it on and off for years, you know? It’s my go-to when I need to unwind. Anyway, I clicked the icon, expecting the usual loading screen, but… nothing. The game just wouldn’t launch. I was like, “What the heck is going on?” I tried again. Still nothing. It was super frustrating!
First thing I did was a quick check of my computer. I mean, it’s not the newest machine, but it’s always handled “League” just fine. I checked the system requirements on the game’s official website, just to be sure, and yeah, my setup was still good. So that wasn’t it.

Next, I thought maybe there was some other program hogging resources. I’m not exactly a computer genius, so I just used the good old Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the Task Manager. I looked through the list of running applications, and there it was – the “LoL Client.” It was right there, chilling in the background. I right-clicked it and tried the “Maximize” option. No luck. It was still just a ghost, not really doing anything.
Then I started thinking about permissions. Maybe the game needed some special admin rights or something? I’ve had issues like that with other software before. So I found the “League” executable file, right-clicked, and chose “Run as administrator.” Fingers crossed, I clicked “Yes” on the prompt… and bam, nothing. Still no game. It was like the game was taunting me at this point.
Feeling a little defeated, I decided to dig into the game’s settings. I right-clicked the game icon, went to “Properties,” and started poking around. I found the “Compatibility” tab, and there was an option to “Run this program in compatibility mode for” some older versions of Windows. I tried a few different ones, thinking maybe that would do the trick. Nope. Nada. The game was still refusing to play nice.
- Checked my computer specs against the game’s requirements.
- Used Task Manager to see if the game was even trying to run.
- Tried running the game as an administrator.
- Messed around with compatibility settings.
At this point, I was getting really annoyed. I even restarted my computer a couple of times, hoping that would magically fix things. It didn’t.
Then, I remembered something about game files getting corrupted. I mean, it happens, right? So I went into the “League of Legends” settings through the client (the one that actually launches, not the game itself) and found the “Repair” option. It took a while, but it checked all the game files and said everything was fine. Of course. That would have been too easy, right?
In a last-ditch effort, I went to the “Network” settings, thinking maybe, just maybe, it was some weird internet issue, I tweaked some stuff there based on things I’d read online. Let me tell you, it did absolutely nothing, I cleared the cache files, following some instructions. Still nothing.
Resolution
Finally, after hours of troubleshooting, I stumbled upon a forum post. Someone mentioned that sometimes, antivirus software can interfere with games. I never thought of that! I use a pretty standard antivirus program, but I figured it was worth a shot. I temporarily disabled it, tried launching “League” again, and guess what? It worked! The game loaded up perfectly. I couldn’t believe it. It was the antivirus all along. I re-enabled my antivirus, launched the game, and it crashed. After temporarily turning off, it worked! I was so relieved and honestly, a little embarrassed that I didn’t think of it sooner. Now I just add an exception for “League” in my antivirus settings, and everything works great.
