Okay, so, I’ve been playing a ton of Pokemon Go lately, and Giratina has always been one of my favorites. Today, I’m diving deep into figuring out the best moveset for this beast in the game.
First things first, I opened up the app and checked out my Giratina. I have both Origin and Altered forms, so it’s a bit of a double whammy. I started with the Altered Forme because it’s the one I use more in PvP battles. I tapped on it, scrolled through its current moves, and made a mental note. “Shadow Claw” and “Dragon Claw” are what it has right now.

Next, I jumped into some online forums and guides. It looks like a lot of people are recommending “Shadow Claw” as the fast move, which I already have – score! But for the charged move, opinions are split between “Dragon Claw” and “Shadow Sneak”. “Dragon Claw” hits hard and charges fast, while “Shadow Sneak” is a ghost-type move that can be useful for coverage. So I’m thinking, let’s try this out.
I used a couple of Charged TMs to try and get “Shadow Sneak”. No luck on the first try, it landed on “Ancient Power” which I did not want to use, but on the second I finally got “Shadow Sneak” and let out a little “Yes!”. Then, I queued up for a battle in the Go Battle League. I led with my Altered Forme Giratina and immediately started spamming “Shadow Claw” to build up energy. The opponent switched to a Togekiss, which is weak to Ghost, so I unleashed “Shadow Sneak”. Boom, it did a good chunk of damage! I ended up winning that match, but I realized I missed having a Dragon-type charged move to deal with other Dragon-types.
- Fast Move: Shadow Claw
- Charged Move 1: Dragon Claw
- Charged Move 2: Shadow Sneak (if you have the resources for a second charged move)
So, I went back and used another Charged TM to get “Dragon Claw” back. Now I have both! My Altered Forme Giratina is rocking “Shadow Claw”, “Dragon Claw”, and “Shadow Sneak”. Pretty sweet, huh? This way I have both good STAB damage and coverage against different types. I won a few more battles and felt pretty good about this setup. It’s flexible and hits hard.
Origin Forme
Now for the Origin Forme. This one is more of an attacker, so I want maximum damage. I checked my Origin Forme and it already had “Shadow Claw” and “Shadow Ball”. This seemed like a popular choice online too, so I didn’t want to mess with it too much. After reading some comments, I decided to use one Charged TM to see what other options are available. It landed on “Ominous Wind”. I mean we had found that ice, fairy, dragon, and dark types are good against Giratina, but fire, steel, rock, electric, ice are not, so I thought “Ominous Wind” might not be ideal for Origin Forme. I used another TM and got “Dragon Pulse”, so then I tried one more and got “Shadow Ball” back. Perfect!
I took this bad boy into a raid against a Mega Gardevoir. I spammed “Shadow Claw” and then fired off “Shadow Ball” as soon as it was charged. It melted that Gardevoir! We took it down with plenty of time to spare, and I was top damage dealer. Feels good, man.
So, after all this experimenting, here’s my final verdict on the best Giratina movesets in Pokemon Go:
- Altered Forme: Shadow Claw, Dragon Claw, and Shadow Sneak (if you can afford it)
- Origin Forme: Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
It took a bunch of Charged TMs and some trial and error, but I’m really happy with these setups. Both forms of Giratina are now absolute powerhouses in my lineup. Time to go dominate some more battles!
