So, I’ve been playing a lot of Pokemon Go lately, and I really wanted to optimize my Slowking. I’ve always liked Slowking, it’s just such a chill Pokemon, you know? But I wanted to make sure I was using it right in battles, so I did some digging into the best movesets and all that jazz.
First off, I started looking around for what moves Slowking can even learn. Turns out, it’s got a pretty decent variety. I found that it has 5 Charge Attacks, which is a good number: Blizzard, Fire Blast, Scald, Psychic, and Surf. This gives it some good type coverage with Ice, Fire, Water, and Psychic moves. Not bad, right?

But which one do I really use? This is where it got a bit more involved. I learned that the “best” moveset is usually considered to be Confusion as the Fast Attack and Psychic as the Charge Attack. Why? Well, because it gets the best DPS, that is damage per second, at around 11.69 and TDO, that is total damage output, at 216.3. I used a chart to check and found that this combo does indeed dish out the most damage compared to other combinations.
Honestly, Slowking isn’t the worst Pokemon out there, not like Magikarp for sure. It’s got some decent bulk, meaning it can take a few hits, and its damage is pretty consistent. The problem is, it’s weak to a lot of common types, which makes it tough to use in, say, the Great League or Ultra League. In Master League? Forget about it. It’s way too slow.
And what about those Galarian Slowkings? I read that they were kind of a big deal back in the day because they had good special defense and a useful ability. I saw a rumor that it might be coming back in the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games. Will it be good again? Who knows. I’m not really into the competitive scene, so I don’t know for sure.
- Slowking’s best Fast Attack is Confusion.
- Slowking’s best Charge Attack is Psychic.
- Slowking isn’t great for the Great League or Ultra League because of common type weaknesses.
- Slowking is too slow for Master League.
My Findings:
I also checked out some of the best counters against Slowking, you know, just in case I ever face one in battle. Some strong ones are Necrozma – Dawn Wings, Mega Gengar, Mega Sceptile, and both Mega and Shadow Tyranitar. Shadow Raikou is also good. I guess it makes sense since these are all pretty powerful Pokemon.
So yeah, that’s my Slowking journey so far. I’m still using it, and I’m having fun, but I’m not expecting to become a Pokemon Go champion with it or anything. It is just a game after all. It’s been interesting to learn about the best movesets and all that, though. It makes me appreciate the game a bit more, I guess. Who knew there was so much to think about with these little digital creatures?
