Okay, so I’ve been trying to get my hands on this Mega Charizard Y in Pokémon GO, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. It all started when Niantic dropped their take on mega-evolution into the game back on August 27th. I was stoked because Charizard is one of my all-time favorites, and having its mega form was just the next level. But it wasn’t as easy as just tapping a button.
First, I had to understand that you can’t just catch a Mega Charizard Y straight up. It turns back into a regular Charizard after you beat it in a raid. Yeah, you heard that right, raids. So, I started hitting up every Charizard raid I could find. I quickly learned that this Mega Charizard Y is a beast.

Raid Battles
I joined a bunch of raid groups. We’re talking early mornings, late nights, whenever a Mega Charizard Y raid popped up, I was there. This thing can hit a max CP of over 5,000! It’s a total powerhouse and one of the best Fire-types in the game, just behind Mega Blaziken. But the thing is, it’s also weak against Flying-types, so you gotta be strategic.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
- Gathering the Troops: Initially, I thought I could maybe solo it. Big mistake. Even with my best counters, it was tough. It became clear that having at least two or three trainers makes a huge difference. So, I teamed up with some friends, and we started coordinating our raids.
- Battle Strategy: We started really planning our attacks. We picked our Pokémon with the right moves and made sure they were powered up. It has a whopping 319 Attack and 212 Defense, so you need Pokémon that can take a hit and dish it out too.
- The Sweet Victory: Finally, after a few tries, we took it down! The feeling of winning that raid was awesome. And the best part? Getting a chance to catch a regular Charizard, which could even be a shiny! I’d tap my phone three times and cross my fingers every time.
The Aftermath
After a bunch of raids, I finally caught a few good Charizards and collected enough Mega Energy to evolve one into Mega Charizard Y. It took time, effort, and a lot of teamwork, but it was totally worth it. Now, I have this super powerful Mega Charizard Y in my collection, ready to take on any challenge. It’s not just about having the Pokémon, it’s about the journey and the friends you make along the way. Catching Mega Charizard Y wasn’t just another task, it was an adventure. And that’s what makes Pokémon GO so fun for me.
