So, today I wanted to mess around with the audio settings in Call of Duty. I’ve been playing for a while, and honestly, the sound design in this game is pretty wild. Sometimes I can hear a pin drop across the map, other times I’m getting snuck up on like I’m deaf. So, I figured it’s time to dig into the settings and see what I can do.
First thing I did was fire up the game. Once I was in the main menu, I went straight to the settings. You know, the usual cogwheel icon. Clicked on that, and boom, a whole bunch of options popped up. I navigated to the “Audio” tab, that was easy enough to find.

Once I was in the audio settings, the first thing I looked at was the “Audio Mix” option. It has a bunch of presets like “TV,” “Headphones,” and “Headphones Bass Boost.” Now, I usually play with headphones, so I tried out both “Headphones” and “Headphones Bass Boost.” “Headphones Bass Boost” seemed to make those footsteps a bit more noticeable, which is exactly what I was going for. I heard “Voice Chat Headphones Bass Boost” is actually the best, maybe I should try it later.
Next up, I messed with the volume sliders. There are a bunch of them: “Music Volume,” “Dialogue Volume,” “Effects Volume,” and so on. Since I’m mainly concerned with hearing footsteps, I cranked up the “Effects Volume” to the max. I mean, that’s where the footstep sounds are, right? Then, I lowered the “Music Volume” and “Dialogue Volume” quite a bit. They’re cool and all, but they can be distracting when you’re trying to listen for enemies.
There is also an “Advanced Audio Settings” section. I didn’t mess with these too much because they are a little bit complicated, such as Juggernaut Music, Hit Marker Sound Effects, and Mute Game When Minimized. I changed the “Mute Game When Minimized” to “on” because I usually would minimize the game when waiting for another round, and I don’t wanna hear any noise when I am waiting.
Then, I jumped into a game to test it all out. Oh boy, what a difference! I could hear footsteps much more clearly. It was like a whole new world. I could actually tell where enemies were coming from just by the sound of their steps. I was picking up on sounds I hadn’t even noticed before.
What I Knew After the Experiment
- Audio Mix: “Headphones Bass Boost” really does make a difference for hearing footsteps.
- Effects Volume: Maxing this out is crucial. Footsteps are way easier to hear.
- Music and Dialogue: Turn these down to minimize distractions.
- Advanced Settings: Turn on “Mute Game When Minimized.”
So yeah, that’s my experience with tweaking the audio settings in Call of Duty. It’s definitely worth spending some time messing around with these settings. You might be surprised at how much of a difference it can make. Now I can finally hear those sneaky enemies coming!
