Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this new champ in League, Smolder, right? He’s a fiery little dragon, pretty cool. Initially, I thought, “This guy’s gotta be an ADC,” but then I started thinking, what if I tried him as a support? Yeah, sounds crazy, but hear me out.
I hopped into a few games, and man, it was a rollercoaster. First couple of matches, I was totally lost. My team was flaming me, saying “Report Smolder, noob support,” and all that jazz. I get it, it’s not the usual pick. But I kept at it, trying different things.

I realized Smolder’s strength is in poking and scaling. His Q, that fireball thing, it stacks up and gets stronger over time. So, I started focusing on harassing the enemy bot lane early on. I’d throw out a Q whenever it was off cooldown, trying to land it on the enemy ADC or support. It wasn’t doing a ton of damage at first, but it was annoying them, chipping away at their health.
- Early Game Shenanigans: I’d start with the support item, you know, the one that gives you gold when you poke enemies. Then, I’d just play it safe, staying behind my ADC, and using my Q to farm some gold and poke.
- Mid Game Mayhem: As the game went on, my Q started to hurt more. Plus, Smolder’s E, where he flies around, it’s great for getting out of sticky situations or chasing down low-health enemies. I used it to help my ADC escape ganks or to secure kills.
- Late Game Dragon: By the time we got to late game, my Q was a real threat. I was basically a second ADC, but with more utility. My W, the sneeze, it’s a big AoE slow, which is super useful in team fights. And don’t even get me started on his ultimate. His mom comes down and breathes fire on everyone! It’s insane!
I experimented with a few different supports to play alongside. Rakan was pretty good; he could engage with his knock-up, and I’d follow up with my damage. Sona was decent too, with her heals and poke. Alistar was a beast; he’d headbutt someone into a wall, and I’d just blast them with fire. Bard and Janna also synergized well, offering good peel and disengage.
Now, I’m not saying Smolder support is the next meta or anything. But it’s definitely fun, and it can work if you play it right. You gotta be patient, focus on scaling, and play around your team. And be prepared for some hate, at least until people realize it’s not a troll pick.
So, yeah, that’s my Smolder support story. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m sticking with it. Give it a try sometime, you might be surprised. Just don’t blame me if your team yells at you!
