So, the other day, I decided I needed to derank my League of Account. Yeah, you heard that right. I was sitting pretty in, let’s just say a rank that wasn’t quite my speed anymore. I needed to get back to where the real action is, where I belong. You know?
Getting Started
First things first, I had to figure out how this whole deranking thing works. I knew that losing games was the obvious answer, but I also knew there’s a bit more to it than that. Like, there’s this thing called LP, and if you lose more than you have, you drop down a division. Simple enough, right? I was at 10 LP in my division, and I lost like 20 LP in a game. Next thing I know, I’m down a division with 85 LP. Not bad for a start.

The Grind Begins
I started playing more ranked games, but not too many. I found some advice online that said to only play a few ranked games a day. Something about reviewing your losses to see where you can improve. I tried it, but honestly, I was more focused on, well, not improving.
One thing I did try was playing with a full team of friends. We’d just surrender matches as soon as we could. It was kind of funny, actually. I mean, we weren’t trying to ruin anyone’s day, but it was definitely a faster way to drop ranks. We found some players who were also looking to derank, and formed a derank team. It was pretty effective, although it wasn’t without its frustrations. Sometimes, we would run into other derank teams, and we would end up in a stalemate.
Little things I did
I also started picking champs I wasn’t super familiar with. And my playstyle? Let’s just say I wasn’t exactly sweating over strategy. I was just trying to play very aggressivly, and if I died, I died. I’d never gank unless it seemed like a sure way to feed the enemy team. Proxy farming top lane also became a go-to move, just to make it look like I was trying to improve my farm.
Honestly, losing on purpose is harder than it sounds. It feels wrong to intentionally play poorly, especially when you’re used to trying your best. I even started to feel a little bad for my teammates who were actually trying to win. But I told myself it was for the greater good. I needed to get back to my true rank, where I could actually enjoy the game again.
Hitting Rock Bottom… Sort Of
Eventually, I hit Iron. It was a bit of a shock at first. I mean, I knew I was trying to derank, but seeing that Iron badge next to my name still stung a little. But you know what? It felt kind of liberating. I was finally free from the pressure of trying to climb. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was ready to start fresh, to play the game for fun again. And that’s exactly what I did.
So, that’s my deranking story. It wasn’t always pretty, and it definitely wasn’t what I expected when I first started playing League. But you know what? I don’t regret it. I learned a lot about the game, about myself, and about what I really want from this whole experience. And hey, at least I have a good story to tell, right?
- Started by understanding how deranking works with LP.
- Played a few ranked games a day, focusing on not improving.
- Tried playing with a full team and surrendering matches.
- Picked unfamiliar champs and played without much strategy.
- Finally hit Iron and felt a sense of liberation.
It was a wild ride, but I made it. Now, I’m back in the lower ranks, having a blast, and actually enjoying the game again. And that’s what really matters, right?
