Okay, so, I’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for a while now, and I finally decided to tackle the whole art collecting thing. It’s a bit of a pain, but I was determined to get that museum filled up. And let me tell you, the Great Statue was one of the pieces I was really gunning for.
First off, I had to wait for Redd to show up on my island. That sneaky fox is a rare sight, but when his boat finally docked, I was all over it. I rushed down to the secret beach and boarded his ship, the “Treasure Trawler”. I remember it because of the weird name and also it was not so secret, actually. Inside, he had a bunch of art pieces on display.

Redd, that sly fox, he offers both real and fake art. I had done my homework, though. I knew that all the art in the game is based on real-life famous pieces. So, I pulled up some images on my phone, comparing them to what Redd was selling.
How I Identified the Real One
The Great Statue, it’s based on the real-world statue of King Kamehameha I. Here’s what I did:
- Checked the Palm: This was the big giveaway. I read somewhere that the fake Great Statue has its right palm facing down, while the real one has its palm facing up. I looked closely, and sure enough, one of the statues had its palm up.
- Compared with Real-Life Images: I found a picture of the actual King Kamehameha I statue online and compared it to the one Redd had. The details were spot on with the upward palm.
- No Other Differences: Some other statues have more obvious differences, like an extra necklace or something like that. But for the Great Statue, it seemed like the palm was the only major tell.
After carefully inspecting it, I was pretty confident I had found the real deal. I bought it from Redd, and the next day, it arrived in the mail. I immediately donated it to Blathers at the museum. He confirmed it was genuine! I was so stoked!
It was a bit of a process, waiting for Redd, then carefully examining the statue, but it was worth it. Now, my museum has a genuine Great Statue, and I’m one step closer to completing my art collection. It’s these little victories that make Animal Crossing so much fun, right?
