Well, let me tell you about this here white cosmos in that Animal Crossing game. My grandson, he plays it all the time, that Animal Crossing: New Horizons. He’s always going on about these flowers, you see. Says he needs ’em to make his island pretty.
So this one time, he’s trying to get these white cosmos, and he’s plantin’ and plantin’. Lord knows, he’s got more patience than me. I’d have given up long ago. He says you gotta plant the seeds just right.

He was saying you can get these white cosmos seeds, or you can make ’em by puttin’ other cosmos together. He calls it breedin’ or somethin’. Sounds funny to me, breedin’ flowers. But that’s what he says. You put one color flower next to another, and sometimes you get a new one, like those white cosmos in Animal Crossing. He tried to show me, but them colors all look the same to my old eyes.

Makes sense, I reckon. If you want something like an orange one then plant a bunch of the orange color flowers and you get what you want.
He told me these flowers in the game, they got different names. There’s cosmos, that’s the one he’s after. And some called lilies, hyacinths, mums, pansies, roses, tulips, even something called Lily of the Valley. He showed me pictures. They’re kinda pretty, I guess. My eyes just aren’t what they used to be. If he didn’t tell me they were different colors, I wouldn’t know. But the boy loves it, and that is what matters to me. Plantin’ and Prayin’ for White Cosmos
Now, he says you gotta plant ’em in a certain way, too. Not just any old way. You gotta put ’em in rows, like a grid, he says. Or in little bunches. And they gotta be next to each other. Not too close, not too far. I swear, that boy spends more time thinkin’ about these flowers than he does his chores.
He says sometimes, if you put two white flowers next to each other, you get another white one. That’s the easy way, he says. No need to buy more seeds. Just let them flowers do their thing.
He told me when you first start this game, you only see a few colors. Orange, red, white, and yellow. He says them’s the easy ones to get. But he wants them fancy ones, them hybrid cosmos. Says they’re harder to come by. It’s these rare cosmos he is really after. Kids these days, always wantin’ somethin’ new.
Anyways, he’s been at it for weeks now, tryin’ to get these white cosmos. He waters ’em every day, checks on ’em like they’re his babies. It’s kinda cute, I guess. He gets so excited when a new one sprouts up.
More About Them Flowers

He was talking about crossbreeding these flowers to get certain colors. Now, I don’t know what kind of colors you can get from crossbreeding cosmoses, hyacinths, lilies, mums, pansies, roses, or tulips. But he was telling me about how it works. I swear, kids these days know all kinds of things.
I don’t rightly know why he’s so set on gettin’ these white cosmos. Maybe they look nice on his island. Maybe he just likes collectin’ things. Kids are like that, you know. Always gotta have the newest toy, the shiniest thing.
Me, I’m happy with my old garden out back. Got my tomatoes, my beans, my squash. Don’t need no fancy flowers to make me happy. Just good, honest dirt and sunshine. That’s all you need, really.
But if these white cosmos make him happy, then I guess that’s all right too. He’s a good boy, even if he does spend too much time on that game. And who knows, maybe one day he’ll teach this old dog some new tricks about these newfangled flowers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
