This Madden game, oh boy, it’s somethin’ else. My grandson, he’s always playin’ it. He’s yellin’ and screamin’ at the TV, like them players can hear him. I said, “Boy, what are you hollerin’ about?” He says, “Grandma, it’s Madden! Gotta get them training values up!” Training what now? I don’t get it, but he’s sure into it.
He’s always talkin’ about these training points. Says he needs ’em to make his players better. Like they’re real people or somethin’. Back in my day, we trained our own selves. Worked hard in the fields, that’s how we got strong. Didn’t need no Madden training values, no sir.

What’s This Trainin’ Thing?
So, this trainin’ thing, it’s like, you gotta earn these points. My grandson, he does somethin’ called “quicksellin’.” He gets rid of the players he don’t want. Sounds kinda mean to me, kickin’ them out like that. But he says it’s how you get them training values fast. Faster than a greased piglet at the county fair, I reckon.
He’s got all these players, see. Silver ones, gold ones, some other colors I don’t even know. Each one’s worth somethin’ different. Like tradin’ chickens, I guess. A good layer hen’s worth more than a scrawny ol’ rooster. Same idea with these Madden fellas, I suppose.
- Silver players, they ain’t worth much.
- Gold players, them’s a little better. Worth more trainin’ points.
- Then there’s these other ones, I forget what he called ’em. But they’re the best, he says. Worth a whole heap of them Madden training values.
Gettin’ Them Points
He’s always clickin’ and clackin’ on that controller, buyin’ and sellin’ them players. Says he’s gotta “build his team.” Like buildin’ a barn, but with these little men on the screen. He spends hours doin’ it. I tell him, “Boy, you could be out helpin’ me with the chores!” But he just says, “Gotta grind for them training values, Grandma!”
He showed me once how it works. You pick a player, click some buttons, and poof! He’s gone. And then you got these points. It’s like magic, but I don’t trust it. Seems like a lot of fuss for somethin’ that ain’t even real.
He says these Madden training values, they make his players faster, stronger, better at throwin’ that ball. Like feedin’ them extra corn or somethin’. I don’t know. Seems like a shortcut to me. Back in my day, we earned our strength through hard work. Didn’t need no fancy computer game to tell us how good we were.
Is it Worth It?
He sure thinks it’s worth it. Spends all his time chasin’ them training values. He says it’s important for somethin’ called “Ultimate Team.” Sounds like a big deal, I guess. But I worry about him, spendin’ so much time starin’ at that screen. Ain’t healthy, I tell ya.
He gets so excited when he gets a good player, or when he gets a lot of them Madden training values. Jumps up and down like a frog in a hot skillet. I guess it makes him happy, and that’s somethin’. But I still think he’d be better off outside, gettin’ some fresh air and sunshine. That is the best training.
Sometimes I get some help from the neighborhood. He’s always tellin’ me to look at the training values. He says the higher the better. I tell ya, sometimes I just don’t know what he is talkin’ about. He gets these cards, like baseball cards but for football players, and each one has a number on it. He calls that the training value. He’s always tryin’ to get the ones with the highest numbers. Says they are the best. I guess it makes his team stronger or somethin’. I don’t know, it is all too much for me.
He’s always buyin’ and sellin’ these cards, tryin’ to get more of them points. Says he needs them to make his team better. He’s always talkin’ about his “Ultimate Team”. I don’t know what’s so ultimate about it, but he sure does spend a lot of time on it. More time than he spends helpin’ me around the house, that’s for sure. I told him, he should focus more on his real life and less on that game. That is the most important training value.
He says it is all about these training values. He’s always lookin’ for ways to get more of them. He says they are like gold in the game. I reckon it is important to him, but I still think he should be spendin’ his time on somethin’ more productive. But he is a good boy, and I love him. Even if he does spend too much time playin’ that Madden game. It is very important for the player to get high Madden training values, and it is also important for me to teach him the values of life.
