Well, you know, this League of Legends, or as them young’uns call it, “LoL,” it’s a big thing these days. My grandson, he’s always on about it. And these lol rank borders, they’re like a big deal, I guess. Just like the old days, you work hard, you get a ribbon or somethin’.
What in tarnation are these rank borders?
So, these rank borders, they show up when the game is loadin’. Kinda like a fancy frame around your picture, but it’s for your, uh, “champion” in the game. And it tells folks how good you are, I reckon. If you’re good, you get a fancy border. If you ain’t so good, well, your border ain’t so fancy.

You get them from playin’ them ranked games. That’s what they call ’em. It is how they separate the good players from the not-so-good players. It is all about lol rank, you see? And these borders change. My grandson, he keeps tellin’ me he’s climbin’ the ladder. Goin’ up the ranks. Just like climbin’ a real ladder, but on the computer.
- You play them games
- You win, you lose
- You get a rank
- That rank gives you a border
It’s simple as pie, really. If you are in diamond rank, you’ll get a diamond border. If you are in the silver rank, you will get the silver border. But you gotta keep playin’ to keep that border, I hear. You slip up, and down you go, and your border changes. They change it all the time, so you gotta keep on your toes!
How do you get these borders?
Now, to get these here lol rank borders, you gotta play them ranked games. And you gotta be good. Real good. They got these levels, or ranks, or whatever they call ’em. Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond… sounds like a jewelry store, don’t it?
And you gotta have what they call “honor.” That’s just bein’ a good sport, I reckon. Don’t be mean to folks, help your team. That sort of thing. Gotta be a good person, even in a game. Who knew?
And as you get better and play more, your, uh, “account level” goes up. It’s like gettin’ older in the game. And with that, you get more borders. Starts out plain, then gets fancier and fancier. My grandson showed me his, and it’s got all sorts of colors now.
- Silver border is for silver rank.
- Gold border is for gold rank.
- Platinum border is for platinum rank.
- And so on…
They change how the borders look sometimes, too. Make ’em look nicer, I suppose. Keep things fresh, they say. Like paintin’ the barn a new color every few years.
Why do folks care about these borders?
Well, why does anyone care about anything, I suppose? It’s somethin’ to be proud of. Shows you put in the work. Like a blue ribbon at the county fair. You worked hard on your pumpkin, and you got the ribbon to prove it.
It’s the same with these lol rank borders. You play hard, you win, and you get a border that shows everyone how good you are. It’s a little somethin’ to show off, I guess. And who doesn’t like to show off a little?
My grandson, he sure is proud of his border. Always talkin’ about it. Says it’s important to him. And if it’s important to him, well, then I guess it’s important.
And you know, you even gotta watch them little critters in the game. What do they call them? Minions! Yeah, that’s it. You gotta “manage” them. Push them, pull them, or something. It is all part of the game. This LoL, it sure is something.

Levels and Borders
They got all sorts of levels in this game. Like a big ol’ staircase. You start at level one, with a plain gray border. Nothin’ special. But as you play more, your level goes up. And with each new level, you get a new border.
When you hit level 30, you get a greenish border. Then at level 50, it turns bluish. And it just keeps goin’ like that. All the way up to level 500! Can you imagine? Five hundred levels! That’s a lot of playin’. And at level 500, you get the fanciest border of ’em all. The top of the mountain, I reckon.
- Level 1: Plain gray border
- Level 30: Greenish border
- Level 50: Bluish border
- Level 500: The fanciest border of them all!
So there you have it. These lol rank borders, they’re a thing. A big thing, apparently. Just another one of them things these young’uns are into these days. But hey, if it makes ’em happy, then I’m all for it. As long as they don’t forget to do their chores, of course. And eat their vegetables. And come visit their old grandma every now and then. That’s all that really matters in the end, ain’t it?
