Well, let me tell you, these young folks and their fancy games. My grandson, bless his heart, he’s always going on about this “Apex Legends” thing. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me, but he seems to like it. He’s always talking about these “Apex Legends codes,” says they get him somethin’ special in the game. I don’t rightly know what that means, but it makes him happy, so that’s all that matters, I reckon.
He tried to explain it to me once. Said somethin’ about “redeeming” these codes. Like you’re savin’ them from somethin’. He said you gotta have an “EA Account.” Sounds like a bank account or somethin’. Don’t know why a game needs a bank account. Back in my day, we played outside! But these kids, they like their screens.

He showed me on his computer, somethin’ about goin’ to a website, somethin’ somethin’ “*/redeem.” I think. I could be wrong. Then you gotta click somethin’ called “Redeem.” You have to put a code there, you see. He showed me the code, It’s very long. It was a long string of numbers and letters, all jumbled together. Looked like gibberish to me. He said you gotta type it in just right, or it won’t work. Kids and their complicated things.
This Apex Legends, it’s got all sorts of things in it. He was showin’ me these characters, they call ’em “Legends.” They all got different outfits, he calls ’em “skins.” And their guns, they got different looks too. He calls those “weapon charms.” I guess it makes the game more fun for him, havin’ all these different looks. But I don’t know how to get them. Those young kids are too fast.
- Sign in to somethin’ called an “EA Account.”
- Go to some website that ends in “redeem”.
- Type in a long code.
- Click a button.
He said these Apex Legends codes, sometimes they give you somethin’ called “Apex Coins.” Sounds like money to me. Maybe it is money, in the game, I don’t know. He uses these coins to buy things in the game, I think. Like those “skins” and “charms” I was tellin’ you about. It’s all a bit much for me, but he enjoys it.
My grandson, he says not everyone can just pick up and play this “Apex” game. He says it ain’t “beginner-friendly,” whatever that means. I think it means it’s hard. He said folks are expectin’ you to know what you’re doin’. He’s been playin’ a while, so he’s gotten good at it. Says there’s even a trainin’ mode, where you learn how to play. He says some character names, “Bloodhound” and “Pathfinder”, They are in this training mode. He told me everyone has to do this trainin’ before playin’ the real game. Sounds like a lot of work just to play a game! If you ask me.
One time, he was showin’ me this part of the game, they call it the “Store” or the “Shop.” It’s where you can get these Apex Legends codes, I think. It all looked so bright and flashy. He clicked on somethin’ called “Featured,” and then he said there was somethin’ on the bottom left of the screen. I couldn’t keep up with him, he was clickin’ so fast.
He said sometimes, these Apex Legends codes, they come from the game makers. They give ’em out to folks, I guess. I don’t know how to find them. It’s a mystery. My grandson gets them from his friends and those game video he watches. They just share the codes with everyone. Then you need to put the codes in the “Store” to get your gift. I don’t think these codes last forever, though. Use it or lose it!
He’s always goin’ on about how these Apex Legends codes are so great. Says they let you get all these things for free. “Free” is a good word. I like free. But I still don’t really understand how it all works. It’s all too complicated for me. I’d rather be out in my garden, tendin’ to my tomatoes. But as long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters.
I reckon these Apex Legends codes are a big deal to these young folks. They’re always talkin’ about ’em. It’s like a whole other language they speak. But hey, if it keeps ’em entertained, then who am I to judge? I just hope they don’t spend all their time in front of those screens. There’s a whole world out there, beyond those video games.
