Well, if yer lookin’ to figure out what them froglets eat, it’s a right simple thing once ya know a bit about ‘em. Froglets, now they ain’t them full-grown frogs yet, but they ain’t tadpoles no more neither. They got little legs and they hop about a bit. At this stage, they’s real picky about what they munch on, but they still gotta eat ‘bout the same way as them grown frogs. They’ll eat both plants and critters, kinda like an omnivore.
At first, when they’s just outta the tadpole stage, they ain’t ready for a big ol’ meal yet. They’ll go for some soft stuff like algae that grows in the water, or some small plants. Now, if ya got ‘em in a tank, you can throw a little bit o’ lettuce in there – but make sure it’s boiled a bit first. Boil it for ‘bout five minutes and let it cool down, and then cut it up small enough for ‘em. They’ll nibble on that. Ya can also try feeding ‘em some rabbit pellets if yer feelin’ fancy, ‘bout two or three should do it.

Now, once they start growin’, they gonna need more than just lettuce and algae. They gonna be huntin’ for some small critters too, just like their bigger frog kin. They’ll snack on insects, like little flies, moths, and even worms if they can catch ‘em. Froglets got long sticky tongues they flick out to grab them bugs when they come too close. It’s a bit like when I try to catch a fly in the kitchen with a dish towel.
But ya gotta be careful about the water, though. Don’t leave the food in there too long, ‘cause it can make the water all murky, and that’s no good for ‘em. Every few days, check and see if they’ve finished their food. If they ain’t eaten it, pull it out so the water stays clean.
When they get a little older, froglets will start eating more things like small snails and slugs, just like them grown frogs do. You could also toss in some small, safe insects, like crickets or tiny grasshoppers. They won’t be too picky as they grow, but make sure them bugs is small enough for ‘em to eat. Don’t wanna give ‘em somethin’ too big that could be a danger.
Now, I’ve read some folks talkin’ about how froglets might not eat if they’re stressed out. Stress can mess with their appetite. If ya move ‘em to a new tank or change the decorations or the lighting, they might get all fidgety and stop eatin’. Ain’t no reason to worry, though. Just give ‘em time to settle down, and they’ll go back to munchin’ their food.
But, like I said, if ya wanna keep them little froglets happy and healthy, you gotta give ‘em a balanced diet. They need plants, insects, and a bit of variety. It’s just like us, right? We gotta have a little of this and a little of that, or we don’t feel right. Froglets, they’s the same.
In the wild, froglets eat whatever they can catch, but when ya got ‘em in a tank, ya gotta be careful and make sure they’re gettin’ the right food. And, always remember, they’s gonna need a clean tank to live in. If the water gets too dirty, they won’t be able to find their food or even eat it properly. So keep the tank clean, feed ‘em right, and you’ll have some happy little froglets hoppin’ around before ya know it!
Key things to feed froglets:
- Algae (for when they’re small)
- Boiled lettuce (cut small)
- Rabbit pellets (a couple, now and then)
- Small insects like flies, moths, and worms
- Small snails, slugs, and crickets
Things to remember:
- Keep the water clean – don’t leave uneaten food in there.
- Froglets need both plant and animal food.
- They might stop eating if they’re stressed, so make sure their home is calm.
