Well, now if you’re lookin’ to catch one of them Magikarp in Pokémon Go, it ain’t too hard, but there’s a few things ya gotta know. First off, don’t go out in the middle of nowhere thinkin’ you’ll find one sittin’ by the side of the road, ‘cause they’re more common in water—lakes, rivers, ponds, or any place with water, ya see. They’re a water Pokémon, so it makes sense, don’t it?
Now, if it’s a rainy day, you got a better shot at findin’ ’em. Yup, when it rains, them Magikarp like to come out more. So, if the sky’s all gray and it’s drippin’ from the clouds, head to a PokéStop or a Gym. You can drop a Lure Module there, and that’ll bring in even more Magikarp. Add some Incense to the mix, and you’ll be seein’ fish floppin’ all over the place! You might even catch a shiny one if you’re lucky, though I ain’t sure if I’d bet my whole barn on that. Ya gotta be patient, I reckon.

But there’s somethin’ else to think about, too. If you’re out on the beach—yep, where the sand meets the water—you’ll be seein’ more than just Magikarp. Things like Squirtle, Psyduck, and Seel like to hang around there too. So, if you’re out at a beach in the game, Magikarp should be near, but so will other Pokémon. Just keep your eyes peeled!
Now, if you’re out walkin’ around, you might find them Magikarp easier by just movin’ along slowly. The game likes it when you’re active and walkin’ around, so the more you move, the better chances you’ll get to find one. But, if you’re just sittin’ around in one spot all day, don’t be expectin’ much to happen.
Oh, and another thing—don’t forget the Pinap Berry! That little berry can help you get more candies for every Magikarp you catch. Use one before you catch it, and you can double the candies you get. That’s right—two candies instead of just one. You’re gonna need all them candies too, ‘cause you’re gonna need 100 candies to evolve your Magikarp into a Gyarados. Yep, you heard right, 100! It’s gonna take some time, but that Gyarados is worth the effort if you ask me. It’ll be strong and mighty, and it’ll help ya in battle.
Some folks say you might see ‘em more often when you’re close to big water bodies like rivers or lakes, but sometimes they pop up even at PokéStops or Gyms in the middle of the town. So it don’t matter where you are, you gotta keep your eyes open for ‘em. Also, there’s times when they get more common during special events in the game, so if you’re lucky enough to be around when one of them events is happenin’, you’ll be catchin’ Magikarp left and right.
But let me tell ya, if you want to catch a shiny Magikarp—well, it ain’t easy. Shiny ones are a rare sight, and they don’t look any different when they’re just sittin’ around out in the wild. The only way you’ll know is if you catch ‘em, and if they show up different in the battle screen, you got yourself a shiny. It’ll be a different color, so that’s how you’ll know for sure. And that red Gyarados? That’s the one folks go after, but don’t get your hopes too high; it’s just as rare as a needle in a haystack!
So, in short, catchin’ Magikarp ain’t all that hard once you know where to look. Head out when it’s rainy, use your Lures and Incense, and walk around by water sources. Don’t forget the Pinap Berries for extra candies, and be ready to catch ‘em all—‘cause you’re gonna need a lot of ‘em to evolve that Magikarp into a mighty Gyarados. And, just maybe, you’ll get lucky with a shiny one if you’re patient enough!
Happy huntin’, and don’t let them fish get away!
