Okay, so I’ve been getting absolutely wrecked by Gwenn in the top lane lately. It felt like no matter what I did, she’d just snip-snip-snip me to death. So, I decided to spend a whole day figuring out how to actually deal with her. Here’s what I did, and what I learned.
First, the Pain (and Research)
My first few games were rough, to say the least. I tried my usual go-to champions – you know, the ones I’m comfortable with. Big mistake. Gwen just shredded through them. It felt like I couldn’t get close, and even when I did, she’d just Hallowed Mist her way out of trouble. So, I hit the internet. Looked at guides, watched some high-level gameplay, and basically tried to absorb as much information as possible.

Experiment Time
After a bit of research, I decided to try a few different approaches. Here’s the breakdown:
- Tanky Bois: I figured if I could just soak up her damage, maybe I could outlast her. I tried champions like Ornn and Malphite. The results were… mixed. I definitely survived longer, but I still couldn’t really stop her. She’d just farm up and eventually become a monster anyway.
- Poke Power: Next, I tried champions that could poke her from a distance, like Jayce. The idea was to keep her low so she couldn’t all-in me. This worked a little better, but I had to play super carefully. One mistake, and I was dead.
- All-In Assassins: I even tried a few all-in assassins, thinking I could just burst her down before she could react. This was probably the most fun, but also the most inconsistent. Sometimes I’d snowball, sometimes I’d feed. Very high risk, high reward.
The “Aha!” Moment
After a bunch of games, I started to notice a few things. The best games, even when I wasn’t totally stomping, were the ones where I could match her mobility or at least keep her from freely running me down. Also, it became super clear that respecting her early levels was HUGE. Getting chunked early put me in a hole I couldn’t climb out of.
My Main Takeaways to share
So, after all that, here’s what I feel like are the key things to remember when countering Gwenn:
- Respect the Early Game: Seriously, don’t fight her early unless you absolutely have to. Just farm and stay safe.
- Mobility Matters: Champions that can match her dashes or have ways to disengage are your best bet.
- Don’t Bunch Up: Her ultimate can wreck your whole team if you’re all clumped together.
- Play your champ wellIt really came down to picking a champ I could play well and just out-playing her, which took practice.
It’s still not a free lane, not by a long shot. But, by trying different things and paying attention to what worked and what didn’t, I feel like I at least have a fighting chance now. It’s all about adapting and not just doing the same thing over and over again, hoping for a different result. Keep practicing, and good luck out there!
