Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of MLB The Show 24 lately, and something super annoying keeps happening: freeze-offs. It’s the worst! You’re in the middle of a game, maybe you’re even winning, and then BAM! The game just… freezes. Here is my experience about it.
The Start:
It started like any other day. I booted up my console, fired up MLB The Show 24, and jumped into a Ranked Seasons game. I’m not the best player, but I hold my own, you know? I was feeling good, had a solid starting pitcher on the mound, and was ready to grind out some wins.
And Then:
So, picture this: it’s the top of the 5th, I’m up by a couple of runs, and suddenly, my batter just… stops. Like, mid-swing, he’s frozen. The pitcher’s frozen. The fielders are frozen. Everything is frozen. The crowd noise is still going, but nothing is moving on the field. This, my friends, is the dreaded freeze-off.
The first time it happened, I was confused. I figured it was just a temporary glitch. I waited… and waited… and waited. Nothing. I messed with my controller, checked my internet connection (which was fine, by the way!), and still, nothing. The game was completely stuck.
My Process about it:
- The Waiting Game.My first step, naturally was just to wait.
- Controller Check.I unplugged and re-plugged in my controller, I pressed every button.
- Internet Troubleshooting.I ran a speed test on my internet. Everything was perfect.
- Restarting The Show.After that, I restarted MLB the show 24.
- The Nuclear Option: Restarting the Console.I full-on power-cycled my console.
After all of above, unfortunately, it’s still going on.
The Result:
After hours (yes, hours!) of waiting in that first freeze-off, I finally gave up and quit the game. Of course, I got the loss. It’s incredibly frustrating to lose a game you were winning, not because of your opponent, but because of a stupid technical issue.
Since then, I’ve had a few more freeze-offs. It’s not every game, thankfully, but it’s frequent enough to be a real problem. Sometimes I get lucky and the other player quits first, giving me the win. Other times, I’m the one who has to bite the bullet and take the loss.
I really hope they fix this soon, because it’s putting a major damper on my enjoyment of the game.
