Okay, so I wanted to get better at my passing game in Madden 24, especially those touch passes that seem so smooth when the pros do it. I hopped into practice mode to mess around and figure it out.
Figuring Out the Timing
First, I just started experimenting. I quickly realized that just tapping the receiver button was giving me those bullet passes – way too hard for what I wanted. The key, I discovered, is all in the hold.

- Quick Tap: Bullet pass. Nope.
- Long Hold: Lob pass. Also not what I was going for.
- Just Right Hold: Bingo! Touch pass.
It’s like, you press the button for the receiver you want, but you don’t just stab at it. You gotta hold it down for, like, a split second. Not too long, not too short. It’s really a feel thing.
Practice, Practice, Practice
So, I spent a good chunk of time just throwing to different receivers, trying to get that “just right” hold down. I started with short routes, then worked my way up to medium and longer ones. The timing felt slightly different depending on how far the receiver was, so that took some getting used to.
Putting It Into Action
After I felt like I had a decent handle on it in practice, I jumped into a quick game against the computer. It’s definitely different when you have a defensive line rushing you! I messed up a few times, throwing some wild passes, but I also started to see the benefits. Those touch passes let me get the ball over the linebackers but in front of the safeties – perfect for those intermediate routes.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely getting better. It’s all about finding that sweet spot with the button hold. My advice? Spend some time in practice mode just feeling it out. You’ll get the hang of it!
