Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Sea of Thieves lately, and I’ve become obsessed with collecting all the cool hats. Seriously, there are SO many, and I just gotta catch ’em all, like they’re pirate Pokémon or something.
First, I started by just playing the game normally, you know, doing voyages, battling skeletons, the usual pirate stuff. I quickly realized that some hats were just randomly awarded after completing voyages or digging up treasure. That was cool, but it felt too…random.

Then, I dug into the in-game shops. Every outpost has clothing shops, and they all sell different hats! I made it my mission to visit every single one and buy every hat I could afford. This meant a lot of gold grinding, selling treasure, and completing those merchant alliance voyages. Those chickens are a pain, but hey, gotta get that hat money!
After that, I discovered that some hats are locked behind commendations. Basically, you gotta achieve certain things in the game to unlock them. For example, defeating a specific number of skeleton ships, or finding all the journals on a certain island. This part was a real challenge, but super satisfying.
- Checked all the shops at every outpost.
- Earned gold like a madman by doing voyages.
- Read the descriptions to gain the hats from commendations.
- Completed commendations for the really tough-to-get hats.
I also learned the hard way that some hats are only available during special events. I missed out on a few, which was a bummer, but it just means I gotta keep my eyes peeled for the next event. Gotta stay vigilant!
The most recent one I found, and it took forever, was to find the hat behind a secret waterfall, I am not good at finding them. I spent hours looking, then I saw the smallest change in environment, and boom, a secret area.
So yeah, that’s my hat-collecting journey in Sea of Thieves so far. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m still not done. My pirate looks awesome, though, and that’s what really matters, right?
