Alright, folks, let’s dive into figuring out the best moveset for Pyroar. I’ve been messing around with this fiery lion for a while now, and I’m here to share my experiences, what worked, what didn’t, and what I finally settled on.
First, I started by just throwing Pyroar into battles. You know, the usual – see what sticks. I quickly realized Pyroar is FAST. And it hits pretty hard on the special side. So, naturally, I leaned into that.

My Initial (and flawed) Approach
- Flamethrower: Because, duh, it’s a fire-type.
- Hyper Voice: A strong, reliable Normal-type special move. Seemed good.
- Hidden Power (Grass): I thought this would give me some coverage against those pesky Water-types.
- Will-O-Wisp: To cripple physical attackers.
This…kinda worked. I won some battles, I lost some battles. The problem? I was getting walled hard by anything bulky, especially Rock-types. Hidden Power Grass wasn’t cutting it. Will-O-Wisp was useful, but not always.
The Re-Think
So, back to the drawing board. I spent some time looking at Pyroar’s movepool again. I needed something to deal with those Rock-types. And I wanted to maximize Pyroar’s Special Attack. I also needed a powerful fire type move instead of just relying on flamethrower.
My Current, Battle-Tested Moveset
Here is where I am getting better results:
- Overheat: Okay, this is the big one. It’s a HUGE fire blast. The Special Attack drop sucks, but sometimes you just need to nuke something.
- Hyper Voice: Still great, still reliable. No changes here.
- Dark Pulse: I finally can use something super effective.
- Flamethrower: It is always good to have a reliable STAB move.
I switched to this set, and things started to click. Overheat let me blast through things that Flamethrower couldn’t. Dark Pulse takes down the Rock-types. Hyper Voice remained consistent. And while I was using Flamethrower less, it’s reliability makes sure I have some power while not getting the stat drop from Overheat.
So, there you have it. That’s my journey to finding a Pyroar moveset that works for me. It’s not perfect, and you might find something that works better for your team. But hopefully, this gives you a solid starting point, and maybe saves you some of the trial and error I went through!
