Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Madden 24 lately, trying to figure out the best draft strategy. It’s a whole different beast this year, and I wanted to share my experiences, screw-ups, and eventual successes with you all.
First, I jumped in blind. Big mistake. I went for big names, guys I recognized, thinking that was the way to go. I ended up with a team that was okay-ish, but totally unbalanced. My offense was decent, but my defense was full of holes, like Swiss cheese. Needless to say, I got crushed in my first few franchise games.

So, I scrapped that team and started researching. I spent hours looking at player stats, not just the overall rating, but digging into the individual attributes. Stuff like speed, acceleration, awareness, those hidden gems that really make a difference on the field.
I also started paying attention to the “development trait”.
Players are classified with different development traits, such as “Normal”, “Star”, “Superstar” and “X-Factor.”
My New Drafting Approach
- Quarterback: I used to ignore the QB until later rounds, but not anymore. I realized a good QB can elevate the whole team. I look for guys with high throw power and accuracy, but also decent mobility. You need someone who can escape the rush! This year, I’m loving the guys with the “Improviser” archetype.
- Wide Receivers: Speed kills, obviously. But I also started prioritizing guys with good catching and route-running stats. It’s no use having a burner if he drops every other pass. I found a couple of sleepers with high “Spectacular Catch” ratings who have been absolute game-changers.
- Running Backs: I used to just go for the fastest guy, but now I’m looking for a balance. Elusiveness and break tackle ratings are super important. You want a back who can make defenders miss and grind out those tough yards.
- Offensive Line: Okay, this is where I really messed up at first. I totally undervalued the O-line. Now, I’m focusing on guys with high strength and pass/run blocking ratings. A solid O-line gives your QB time and opens up running lanes. It’s the foundation of your offense.
- Defensive Line: Pass rush is king. I’m targeting guys with high power moves and finesse moves. Getting pressure on the QB disrupts everything. I also look for high block shedding to stop the run.
- Linebackers: This is where versatility is key. I want guys who can rush the passer, cover receivers, and stop the run. Speed and awareness are crucial here.
- Defensive Backs: Man coverage and zone coverage are both important, but I’m leaning towards man coverage this year. Speed and agility are must-haves, and I’m also looking for guys with high play recognition.
I rebuilt my team using this new strategy, and the difference was night and day. I went from getting stomped to actually contending for the playoffs. It’s still a work in progress, but I feel like I’m finally on the right track.
My biggest takeaway? Don’t just go for the big names. Do your research, look at the individual attributes, and build a balanced team. And for the love of all that is holy, don’t neglect your offensive line!
Also you can look for players in their early 20s, such as 21-23 years old, because they will improve very quickly over the course of the season if they receive a lot of playing time.
Hope this helps some of you out there. Let me know what draft strategies you’ve been using!
