Okay, so I’ve been hooked on Pokemon Go again lately, and this whole Scatterbug thing? It’s been a wild ride. I finally figured out how to maximize getting those different Vivillon patterns, and let me tell you, it involves a lot of friends.
Getting Started: The Postcard Pinning
First, I realized I needed to actually understand how Scatterbug even worked. It’s all about the postcards, people! You get postcards from gifts your friends send you, and the location the gift is from determines the Vivillon pattern. I had a ton of gifts piling up, so I started there.

I started pinning postcards before opening gifts. You just tap the little pin icon next to the postcard. Did you know that you can only pin three of your own postcards per day? I didn’t at first! I learned that the hard way. I saved a few of my local postcards to pin for that daily boost.
The Friend Grind
This is where the “friends” part of “Pokemon Go Scatterbug friends” really comes in. I realized I needed friends from all over the world. I joined some online Pokemon Go friend code exchange groups. It was a bit overwhelming, but I started adding people from regions I knew I didn’t have – Japan, Australia, all over Europe, South America… you name it.
It became the gift open limit! After reaching the daily gift open limit, you have to wait until the next day to continue opening gifts. This is a long-term plan.
- Send gifts as often as I could.
- Open gifts every day, prioritizing those pinned postcards.
- Keep track of which regions I still needed. I actually made a little list. Don’t judge!
The Payoff: Vivillon Galore!
After a few days of this, I started seeing the Scatterbug encounters pop up. The first few were from regions close to me, so they were patterns I already had. But then… I got a Sandstorm Vivillon! And then a Monsoon! It was so exciting to see the different patterns appear.
It took some time, and a lot of gift exchanging, I built up a pretty impressive collection of Vivillon. I’m still missing a few, but I’m well on my way. It is a long-term plan and it takes patience, but it also makes it much more fun!
So, that’s my Scatterbug story. It’s all about postcards, friends, and a little bit of patience. If you’re trying to collect all the Vivillon patterns, my advice is to get organized, find some international friends, and get pinning!
