Alright, guys, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, trying to really power up my Mewtwo. It’s a beast, right? But you gotta have the right moves. So, I spent a good chunk of my weekend experimenting, and I think I’ve cracked the code for the best moveset. Here’s how I figured it out.
Figuring Out the Fast Attack
First, I started messing around with the Fast Attacks. You’ve got Confusion and Psycho Cut. Both are psychic-type, so that’s a plus for STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus). I battled a bunch of Team Rocket grunts and raid bosses, timing how fast I could unleash Charged Attacks with each.

- Confusion: Hits harder, felt a bit slower.
- Psycho Cut: Felt way faster to charge up my special. Seemed like less damage per hit.
It seemed to me, that because the charged attacks are so strong, getting off more of them is more important than how strong the fast attack is.
Choosing the Best Charged Attack
Now, for the Charged Attacks, this is where things got interesting. Mewtwo has a TON of options. I used a bunch of TMs – both regular and Charged – to try out different combos. I was focusing on type coverage (you know, being able to hit different types of Pokemon effectively) and raw power.
I started with the obvious: Psystrike. It’s a Mewtwo exclusive move, and man, it hits HARD. Definitely keeping that one. Then I played around with others:
- Focus Blast: Fighting-type, good for taking down those pesky Normal and Dark types that resist Psychic.
- Ice Beam: Good for taking down Dragons.
- Flamethrower: Didn’t seem that useful, really. Rock types are better suited for that.
- Thunderbolt: Same problem as Flamethrower. I didn’t find that it was needed.
- Shadow Ball: Ghost-type, hits other Psychic types super effectively, and also great against Ghost types.
Putting it All Together
After hours of battling, switching moves, and yelling at my phone (just kidding… mostly), I landed on this combo:
- Fast Attack: Psycho Cut
- Charged Attack 1: Psystrike
- Charged Attack 2: Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, or Ice Beam
The quick energy from Psycho Cut allows you to spam Psystrike, and Focus Blast is super valuable to destroy other powerful meta pokemon, as well as types that counter psychic. You could very well substitute Focus Blast for Ice Beam if you are having trouble with Dragon types, or Shadow Ball if other psychic pokemon are giving you a hard time.
I powered up my best Mewtwo, slapped those moves on it, and boom! It was melting through gyms and raids. My win rate went way up. So, yeah, give this moveset a try. You might have to burn through some TMs, but trust me, it’s worth it to have a Mewtwo that can dominate.
