Okay, so I finally decided to jump into NBA 2K24. I’d been putting it off, watching some gameplay videos, reading reviews, the usual stuff. But today, I was like, “Screw it, let’s do this!”
First thing I did was fire up the game. I’ve got a decent gaming rig, so I wasn’t too worried about performance. The initial loading took a bit, which is, you know, expected with these massive games nowadays. While it loaded, I grabbed a drink and some snacks. Gotta be prepared for a long session, right?

Getting Started and Setup
Once it was loaded, I went straight into the settings. I’m a bit of a stickler for visuals, so I cranked everything up to Ultra. I also tweaked the controls a little. I prefer a slightly different setup than the default, especially for the shooting mechanics. It just feels more intuitive to me this way.
MyCAREER Mode
After that, I dove into the MyCAREER mode. This is where I spend most of my time in these games. Creating my player took a while. I mean, there are so many options! I wanted to make sure my guy looked just right, from the hairstyle to the tattoos. Ended up going for a pretty classic look, nothing too flashy.
- Position: Point Guard (always my go-to)
- Archetype: Playmaking Shot Creator (seemed like a good balance)
- Height: 6’4″ (figured it was a good all-around height)
The opening cutscenes and story stuff were… okay. Honestly, I mostly skipped through them. I just wanted to get to the actual gameplay! I played a few pre-draft games. My performance was a bit shaky at first. Took me a game or two to really get a feel for the timing of the shots and the defensive mechanics. It’s definitely different from 2K23, which I played, but not super different.
First Few Games
I got drafted by the… well, I won’t spoil it, but it’s a team I wasn’t super thrilled about. Let’s just say they aren’t exactly championship contenders. But hey, that’s part of the challenge, right? My first few NBA games were rough. I was coming off the bench, getting limited minutes, and my stats were pretty embarrassing. Lots of turnovers, missed shots… the whole nine yards.
But I kept at it. I started focusing on making smart passes, playing solid defense, and just trying to contribute in any way I could. Slowly but surely, my minutes started to increase, and my stats started to improve. I even had a couple of games where I hit some clutch shots!
My Current Status: Still early in the season. Grinding away, trying to earn that starting spot and become a key player. It’s a long road, but that’s what makes it fun, I guess.
Overall, my first day with NBA 2K24 was a mix of frustration and excitement. It’s definitely a challenging game, but it’s also rewarding when you start to see your player improve. I’m looking forward to putting in more hours and seeing where my career takes me. Will keep update my experience in following days!
