Okay, so today I wanted to catch a Sudowoodo in my Pokemon game. It’s that weird Rock-type that pretends to be a tree, you know? The thing is, I wasn’t sure which Pokeball to use. I mean, should I just chuck a regular Pokeball and hope for the best? Or is there a better option?
So I did a little digging. First, I checked Sudowoodo’s level. It was around level 20, not too high, not too low. Then I considered my options:

- Regular Pokeball: Basic, cheap, but not very effective, especially on something that might have decent stats.
- Great Ball: A step up, for sure. Better catch rate than the regular one.
- Ultra Ball: Top-tier for normal balls. High catch rate, but also more expensive.
- Heavy ball:Because Sudowoodo disguised as a tree, it must have a lot of weight, so I thought the heavy ball might be a good choice.
My Experiment and Results
I decided to try a little experiment. I saved my game (important!), then I started throwing balls. Here’s what happened:
- I used heavy balls first, throwing them for a few times, and I caught that!
- Then I loaded the game, and tried regular Pokeballs. Took about 5 of them, and Sudowoodo broke free every time. Frustrating!
- Next, I tried Great Balls. Better! Sudowoodo only broke out twice before I caught it.
- Ultra Balls were up last. Caught it on the first try, of course.
So, what did I learn? While Ultra Balls are obviously the best, they’re overkill for a level 20 Sudowoodo, especially if you’re early in the game and need to save money. I did find that the heavy ball is the best choice. If you don’t want to waste too many, Great Balls are a solid middle ground. Don’t bother with regular Pokeballs unless you have tons of them and don’t mind the frustration!
My final recommendation? Go with the Heavy Ball or Great Balls if you have it. Save those Ultra Balls for something tougher!
