Alright, so I wanted to get back into “Black Ops 1” the other day, and I figured I’d check out the server situation. Figured it would be dead, right? Wrong! I was pretty surprised.
Firing Up the Game
First, I launched the game through Steam. Made sure everything was updated, you know how it is. Took a little bit, my internet’s not the fastest.

Diving into Multiplayer
Next, I clicked on the “Multiplayer” option. Straightforward enough. Then I hit “Server Browser.”
Browsing the Servers
Okay, here’s where I was expecting tumbleweeds. But nope! I saw a bunch of servers listed. Not a ton, but definitely more than I expected. Most were pretty empty, but I spotted a few with some players.
- Some servers show no players at all.
- A few were modded, some were vanilla.
- I filtered for servers that don’t show 0 players.
- Then I chose my favorite mode.
Finding a Match
I picked a Team Deathmatch server with like, 8 players. Figured that was a good start. Double-clicked, and boom, I was in.
The Experience
Honestly, it was pretty fun! A little laggy sometimes, but nothing crazy. It was cool to see people were still playing. It’s not packed like the old days, but you can definitely still find a game.
The important thing is that I’ve finally found a server that’s not totally empty!
