Okay, so today I decided to mess around with Heatmor in Pokémon GO. I’ve seen a few around, but never really bothered to power one up or anything. I’ve always been more of a fire-type starter kind of guy, you know?
First things first, I needed to catch a decent Heatmor. I popped an Incense and just walked around my usual route. It took a while, honestly, longer than I expected. I caught a bunch of other stuff, but finally, a Heatmor spawned. It wasn’t amazing, IVs were kinda meh, but it was high enough level that I figured it was worth a shot.

Powering Up and Moves
Next, I dumped a bunch of Stardust and Candy into it. I mean, a bunch. I had a good stockpile, thankfully, so it wasn’t too painful. I got it up to a respectable CP, nothing crazy, but good enough for some gym battles and maybe some lower-tier raids.
For moves, I went with Fire Spin and Flamethrower. I know some people like Power-Up Punch, but I’m all about that Fire-type damage. Seemed like the most straightforward choice, right?
Putting Heatmor to the Test
I took my newly powered-up Heatmor to a local gym. It was being held by some Team Mystic players, so it was time to see what this fiery anteater could do.
- First battle: A Blissey. Piece of cake, really. Fire Spin built up energy fast, and Flamethrower took it down pretty quickly.
- Second battle: Snorlax, easy to beat.
- Third battle:A Dragonite. Okay, this was a bit tougher. Dragonite hits hard, and Heatmor isn’t exactly known for its defense. I managed to win, but Heatmor fainted in the process.
I revived Heatmor and tried a few more gyms. It did okay, definitely better against Grass, Bug, Steel, and Ice types, as you’d expect. Anything with strong Water, Ground, or Rock moves, though… yeah, not so much.
Final Thoughts
So, after spending the day with Heatmor, my verdict? It’s… alright. It’s not going to become my go-to attacker, but it’s fun to use sometimes. If you have a ton of Stardust and Candy burning a hole in your pocket, and you like Fire-types, go for it. But if you’re looking for a top-tier Fire attacker, there are probably better options out there.
Would I use Heatmor in the end? Absolutely, I find it strong, fun and a bit different.
