Okay, so I’ve been playing a lot of League of Legends lately, and Gwen, you know, the Hallowed Seamstress, has been a real pain. I kept getting wrecked by her in the top lane, and I just had to figure out how to deal with her. So, I started my quest to find the best Gwen counter!
First, I jumped into some normal games. I figured I needed to experience the pain firsthand to understand it, right? I tried a bunch of different champions, some I was comfortable with, some I wasn’t. It was a mixed bag, to say the least.

Trying Out Different Champs
- Garen: My go-to top laner. Thought his silence would be good, but… nope. She just danced around me and I couldn’t stick to her. Felt pretty useless.
- Darius: More of a bruiser, he has powerful output, but… still got out-traded. I even tried timing my pull with her dash, and it worked sometimes, but it wasn’t reliable.
- Fiora: Thought the parry would be key. It was… okay. I could block her empowered Q, but her mobility and sustained damage were still a problem.
- Teemo: Okay, don’t judge. I was desperate. The blind helps a little, but she can still shred you with her E and ult. Plus, I got camped by the enemy jungler hard. Not fun.
After these disastrous attempts, I did some “research” (aka, I Googled “Gwen counter top”). I looked at some win-rate stats, and read some forum posts and guides and find some suggestions.
The Champions with Potential
- Tryndamere: The data shows Tryndamere can be a strong * ultimate basically negates her burst, and he can stick to her pretty well. I’m not the best Tryndamere player, so I’ll need practice.
- Jax: His counter-strike seems perfect for dodging her Q sweet spot. Plus, he scales really well, and Gwen kind of wants to scale too, so that’s a good match-up in theory.
- Sett: Lots of folks recommended Sett. His Haymaker (W) can punish her if she gets too close, and he’s just generally a strong brawler. I’ve had some success with him before, so I’m feeling optimistic.
- Warwick:His ability to win early trades and heal up is great.I tried him and i can suppress her with his ultimate.
My Action Plan
I picked Sett and Warwick and played several games. I focused on short trades and avoiding her empowered Q. I tried to use my W (Haymaker for Sett, and Primal Howl and Jaws of the Beast for Warwick) when she committed to an all-in, and I think I got the timing down pretty well after a few tries.
It’s still a work in progress, but I feel way more confident facing Gwen now.I won’t say I always win, but I definitely don’t feel helpless anymore. It’s all about knowing the matchup and playing smart! I’m still learning, but that’s half the fun, right?
