Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, trying to optimize my teams, you know? And I got stuck on this one question: Bellossom or Vileplume? They’re both Grass/Poison types, and honestly, they seemed pretty similar at first glance. So, I decided to put them to the test myself.
The Start: Initial Research
First thing I did, I pulled up their stats and movesets. Looked at a bunch of websites, read some forum posts – the usual. It seemed like Vileplume was generally favored, hitting a bit harder with that Razor Leaf. Bellossom, on the other hand, seemed… well, kinda underwhelming.

Testing them out: Gym Battles
But I’m not one to just take people’s word for it. I had a decent Bellossom and Vileplume, so I started using them in gym battles. I threw them at various Water-type defenders, the usual suspects.
- My Vileplume, yeah, it did okay. Razor Leaf did feel pretty strong.
- But my Bellossom… it felt slow. It felt like charging took for ever.
Experiment with different movesets
Then I thought, maybe I’m not using the right moves. So I started messing around with TMs. Maybe change up the fast move or get a different charged attack?
- Tried to adjust Vileplume with different movesets.
- Adjust Bellossom movesets as well.
Continued testing: More Battles
Back to the gyms I went! More battles, more switching, more trying to figure out what worked. It took a while, and honestly, I lost a few battles I probably shouldn’t have, but it’s all part of learning, right?
The Result
After all that, here’s what I found:
Vileplume, overall, seems to be like the more powerful of the two. It is true that Razor Leaf felt good, with consistent damage.
Bellossom…well, it’s still not my first choice. Maybe if the Fast Moves were different, I think.
So, that’s my little experiment. Hope this helps someone else out there trying to make the same tough choice!
