Okay, here’s my take on building Yelan as a sub-DPS, based on my own experiences playing around with her:
So, I finally pulled Yelan a while back, and man, I was hyped. I’d heard so much about how amazing she is as a sub-DPS, so I was itching to get her built up and see for myself. I started by doing some reading online, checking out some guides and videos, but honestly, a lot of it was just confusing. So, I just decided to jump in and figure things out as I went.

My Artifact Grind
First things first: artifacts. I knew Emblem of Severed Fate was supposed to be her best set, so I started farming that domain like crazy. It took forever, and I mean forever, to get anything decent. I was mostly looking for Energy Recharge, HP%, and some Crit Rate/Damage. It’s a balancing act, you know?
I ended up with a 4-piece Emblem set, but it’s definitely not perfect. My sands is HP%, goblet is Hydro DMG Bonus (thank goodness I got one of those!), and the circlet is Crit Rate. I’m still hunting for a better circlet, maybe one with Crit Damage, but for now, this is doing the trick.
Weapon Choice
For the weapon, it use Favonius Warbow, I was lucky enough to get it while playing the game, It helps with the Energe Recharge.
Team Comps and Gameplay
I’ve been trying Yelan out in a few different teams. She’s amazing with Hu Tao, obviously. That Vaporize damage is just insane. Her burst works perfectly with Hu Tao’s charged attacks. I’ve also been using her with Raiden Shogun in a sort of “taser” comp, and that’s been pretty fun too. Her off-field Hydro application is just so good.
The main thing I’ve learned is that you really need to keep her Energy Recharge high. Her burst is where all her damage comes from, so if you can’t keep that up, you’re missing out on a lot. It is very important to use her skill and keep the burst all time.
Leveling and Talents
I got Yelan to level 90. It’s a bit of a resource sink, but I think it’s worth it for that extra bit of HP and damage. I also crowned her burst – no regrets there! Her skill is at level 8, and I’m leaving her normal attacks at level 1, since I don’t really use them.
My Overall Thoughts
Honestly, building Yelan has been a bit of a grind, but it’s been totally worth it. She’s just so strong and versatile. My current build isn’t perfect, but she’s already carrying my teams through some tough content. I’m still tweaking things here and there, but that’s part of the fun, right?
My main takeaways so far:
- Emblem of Severed Fate is the way to go.
- Focus on Energy Recharge, HP%, and Crit.
- Favonius Warbow is pretty good for her.
- She pairs well with tons of characters.
- Keep that burst up!
So yeah, that’s my Yelan sub-DPS build in progress. It’s been a blast figuring her out, and I’m excited to keep refining her build and trying out new team comps. Hope this helps anyone else who’s working on building her! Good luck with your pulls and artifact farming!
