Alright, guys, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, trying to really max out my team. And let me tell you, Heatran has become one of my absolute favorites. So, I wanted to figure out the absolute BEST moveset for this beast, and boy, did I go down a rabbit hole!
I started by, you know, just catching a bunch of Heatran. I hit up a ton of raids – my local group was probably sick of seeing me! – until I finally snagged a few with pretty decent IVs. That’s step one, right? Gotta have a good base to work with.

Experiment time
Then came the fun part – testing out different moves. I used a bunch of TMs – Fast TMs and Charged TMs – experimenting with different combinations. I read some stuff online, watched a few YouTube videos, but honestly, nothing beats trying it out yourself.
I started by trying out Fire Spin as the fast move. It felt pretty good, you know, consistent damage. Then I swapped it to Bug Bite to see how it would work. I was reading online that Bug Bite charges energy faster.
- Fire Spin: Felt powerful, good for consistent damage.
- Bug Bite: Seemed to charge energy quicker, which is key for those Charged Attacks.
For the Charged Attack, I had a tougher time making the desicion. I knew Flamethrower was a solid choice, so I started there. The damage was good, very reliable. I also tinkered with Stone Edge, mainly because, well, it’s always fun to have a surprise move that covers some * felt good with the 2-bar charged move. Iron Head was an experiment. It’s steel type, which could have advantages, but in practice, it just didn’t feel as * damage was low and it just didn’t have any chance against the other moves.
- Flamethrower: My go to, always reliable.
- Stone Edge: A nice surprise move, for those rock and other counters.
- Iron Head : It’s steel type, but the damage just isn’t worth.
My Hard-Earned Conclusion
After all that battling, testing, and TM-ing, I finally settled on what I think is the best moveset for Heatran in Pokemon Go:
Fast Move: Fire Spin
Charged Attack: Flamethrower & Stone Edge
Fire Spin just felt like the most consistent damage dealer, and it builds up energy pretty fast.I added Stone Edge as my second charge move. This combo gives you a good mix of power and coverage. You can hit hard with Fire, and then surprise them with a Rock-type blast!
It may not the best, but take this as a start point, get your hand dirty and try it * is just what worked best for me, and with my playstyle. So, get out there, catch some Heatran, and start experimenting! Good luck, trainers!
