Alright, so yesterday was Tuesday, and you know what that means in Pokemon Go – Spotlight Hour! I always look forward to these, even if the featured Pokemon isn’t something I’m super excited about, because of the bonuses.
This time, it was all about Bug-type Pokemon, and the special bonus was 2x Stardust for catching Pokemon. Stardust is, like, the most important resource in the game if you’re into battling or powering up your Pokemon, so I was definitely not going to miss this one.

My Game Plan
My usual strategy for Spotlight Hour is pretty simple. I find a spot with a good cluster of Pokestops – that’s where the most Pokemon will pop up. I also like to be somewhere I can walk around safely, because you know, gotta hatch those eggs too!
- Prep Work: Before 6 PM, I made sure I had plenty of Pokeballs. Nothing worse than running out in the middle of an event! I also cleared out some Pokemon storage space to make room for all the critters I was gonna catch.
- Lure Up: Right at 6, I dropped a Lure Module on a Pokestop. That attracts even more Pokemon to the area, especially the featured type, so it’s Bug City.
- Incense On: I popped an Incense too. That way, Pokemon would be coming to me even if I wasn’t right on top of a Pokestop. More Pokemon, more Stardust!
Catching All The Things!
So, from 6 to 7 PM, I was just walking around, catching everything that moved. I used the “quick catch” trick to save time. Basically it skips part of the catching animation and it really speeds things up when you’re catching dozens of Pokemon.
My fingers were flying! I caught a ton of Weedle, Caterpie, and other bug. I also used Pinap Berries on some of the Pokemon I caught to get some extra candy (I can’t never get enough of those).
The Sweet, Sweet Stardust
By the end of the hour, I was swimming in Stardust. I didn’t even do any fancy math, but I could feel the difference that 2x bonus made. I managed to power up a few of my strongest Pokemon, and I still have plenty left over for future projects.
Overall, it was a solid Spotlight Hour. Even though I wasn’t chasing any specific shiny Bug-type, the Stardust haul made it totally worth it. Now I’m ready for the next event, whatever it may be!
