Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Abomasnow in battles lately, trying to find the best moveset. It’s been a journey, let me tell you!
My Starting Point
First, I just threw on some moves that seemed good. You know, the usual suspects like Blizzard and Giga Drain. I even tried a weird set with Aurora Veil, thinking I could make it a support ‘mon. It… didn’t go great. I got wrecked by faster Fire-types and anything that could set up.
Experimentation Time
So, back to the drawing board. I started looking at Abomasnow’s stats. Its Attack and Special Attack are equal, so I could go either way, physical or special. I messed with both.
- Physical Attempt: I tried Wood Hammer, Ice Shard, Earthquake, and… something else, I forget. It was okay, but Wood Hammer’s recoil was a pain.
- Special Attempt: Blizzard (duh!), Giga Drain, Focus Blast, and… I think I had Earth Power on there? It hit hard, but Focus Blast missed at the worst times.
The Breakthrough!
Then it hit me: Abomasnow’s ability, Snow Warning, sets up Hail automatically. Why not use that to my advantage? Blizzard becomes 100% accurate in Hail, so that’s a no-brainer.
I decided to focus on Special Attack. Here’s what I ended up with, and it’s been working way better:
- Blizzard: Massive damage, perfect accuracy in Hail. This is the bread and butter.
- Giga Drain: STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) Grass-type move, and it heals Abomasnow! Keeps it alive longer.
- Earth Power: Great coverage. Hits those pesky Fire-types that resist Blizzard and Giga Drain.
- Ice Shard: Priority! Even though it’s physical, the priority is super useful for picking off weakened, faster foes.
My Final thought
With this moveset, I actually started winning some battles! It’s not perfect, Abomasnow is still slow and has a lot of weaknesses, but it’s definitely the best I’ve managed to make it so far. I’m still tweaking things, maybe trying different items, but the core moveset feels * you are finding a good moveset for Abomasnow, you can try the above setting!
