Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of CS2 lately, and one thing that’s been bugging me is knife cases. Like, which ones are actually worth opening? I’ve wasted way too much money on cases that just gave me junk, so I decided to do some serious digging and figure out the “best” ones. I’m putting “best” in quotes because, you know, it’s all random chance, but some cases definitely have better odds than others.
My Case Opening Journey
First, I started by just opening a bunch of random cases. Yeah, not the smartest move. I opened some Dreams & Nightmares Cases, a few Recoil Cases, even some older ones like the Operation Hydra Case. I got mostly blues, a few purples, and zero knives. Total waste of money, honestly. Don’t do what I did.

Then, I started watching YouTube videos and reading forum posts. Some people swear by the Revolution Case, others say the Clutch Case is the way to go. Some of them got the rare item, the knife! It’s complicated, lots of conflicting info, but it gave me a starting point.
Digging into the Data (Sort Of)
I started looking at the prices of the knives in each case. If a case has a bunch of really expensive knives, it might be a better case to open. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s a factor. For example, the Operation Breakout Weapon Case has some super pricey Butterfly Knives, so that seemed *, I also noticed prices that are too low, and also the quantities are limited!
- I made a spreadsheet (yeah, I’m that guy) listing all the cases and the average price of the knives inside.
- I also noted the price of the case itself. Some cases are way more expensive than others, which eats into your potential profit.
- It’s all about finding that sweet spot: a case with a decent chance of a good knife, but not so expensive that you’re broke before you even open it.
My (Slightly) More Informed Attempts
Based on my “research,” I decided to focus on a few specific cases. I grabbed a couple of Revolution Cases, tried my luck with a Dreams & Nightmares Case again, and even snagged a cheap Operation Breakout Weapon Case. The results?
Still no knife. But, I did get a few skins that were worth more than what I paid for the cases, so I didn’t feel as bad. I also decided that the Operation Breakout is good for collection, although it does not bring me any profit.
The Takeaway (So Far)
Opening CS2 cases is a gamble. There’s no magic formula. Even the “best” cases have terrible odds. But, by doing a little research and being smart about which cases you open, you can at least improve your chances (slightly). And I think I need to try more cases.
I’m still on the hunt for that elusive knife, so this is definitely a work in progress. I’ll keep updating my spreadsheet and trying different cases. Maybe one day I’ll actually get lucky. If I do, I’ll definitely share what case I opened! Good luck to anyone else out there chasing the knife dream!
