Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, trying to build the best team I can. I kept seeing Abomasnow pop up in recommendations, and I was like, “Really? That big snowy tree thing?” So, I decided to do a little experiment and see if Abomasnow is actually any good.
Getting My Hands on Abomasnow
First things first, I needed to actually get a good Abomasnow. I already had a few Snover from past events, but their stats were kinda meh. So, I started hunting.

- Catching Snover: I used some incense and just walked around areas I know have a lot of spawns. Took a while, but I finally caught a Snover with pretty good IVs – high attack and defense, which is what I was looking for.
- Evolving: I had enough Snover candy from all the ones I’d caught and transferred, so I hit that evolve button and boom – Abomasnow!
Putting Abomasnow to the Test
Now for the fun part – battling! I took my newly evolved Abomasnow into a few different scenarios:
- Raids: I tried it out against some lower-tier raid bosses. It did… okay. Not amazing, but not terrible either. The ice-type moves were definitely helpful against dragon types, I made sure that.
- Trainer Battles (PvP): This is where I was really curious. I threw Abomasnow into the Great League and the Ultra League. Honestly? It was a bit of a mixed bag.
The Good, The Bad, The Snowy
Here’s the breakdown of my Abomasnow experience:
- The Good:
- Strong against common types: Abomasnow’s Ice and Grass typing is super effective against a lot of popular Pokemon, like Dragonite, Garchomp, and Swampert.
- Fast charging attacks: I could spam charge moves with decent speed.
- The Bad:
- So. Many. Weaknesses: It is weak for too many types. Fire, Flying, Fighting, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel. Ouch.
- Gets shredded easily: If the other Pokemon had a strong move that Abomasnow was weak to, it was basically game over. Fast.
My Verdict
So, is Abomasnow good in Pokemon Go? After all this, I’d say it’s… situational. It can be really powerful if you use it right, against the right opponents. But, it’s also a huge risk because of all those weaknesses. I think it’s a fun Pokemon to use, and I’ll probably keep it on my roster for certain battles, but it’s definitely not a must-have for every team.
If you’re thinking about using Abomasnow, just be prepared to switch it out fast if you see a Fire-type Pokemon! And as I always said before, just have fun, and good luck for your own hunting!
