Okay, so I’ve been trying to get my hands on this proto-drake mount in the game for a while now. It’s not super easy, so I figured I’d share my whole, messy process.
First Steps: Figuring Out Where to Start
First, I needed to figure out where to even begin. I knew it involved some rare spawn, so I did a bit of digging around. I found out I needed to hunt this thing called the “Time-Lost Proto-Drake”. Sounds cool, right? But also… intimidating.
The Long Wait… and the Campsite
The next part was… well, it was a lot of waiting. I parked my character in Storm Peaks, which is apparently the only place this drake shows up. I picked a spot that seemed popular, based on seeing other players hanging around. I literally set up camp. I mean, in the game, of course. I made sure my character was comfy, had some snacks (again, in-game!), and… waited.
False Alarms and Near Misses
There were SO many false alarms. Every time someone in the zone chat yelled “FOUND IT!” my heart would jump. I’d fly around like crazy, only to find out it was the wrong rare spawn. Ugh. It happened like, five times. So frustrating! One time, I was sure I was close. I saw the drake flying, got super excited, and… someone else tagged it first. I almost threw my keyboard, not gonna lie.
Keeping Myself Entertained (and Awake!)
To keep myself from going completely insane, I did other things while I waited. I chatted with other players, farmed some materials, and even watched some videos on my other monitor. Staying awake was the biggest challenge, especially since I was trying to do this during off-peak hours (less competition, you know?). Lots of coffee was involved. Real-life coffee, that is.
Finally! The Moment of Truth
Then, after hours and hours… it happened. Zone chat went crazy, but this time, it was the REAL deal. The Time-Lost Proto-Drake was up! I flew as fast as I could, my hands were actually shaking. I found it, targeted it, and started attacking. It was a tough fight, but I managed to take it down!
Victory! (and a Shiny New Mount)
And… I got it! The reins dropped, and I learned the mount. I was SO relieved. It felt amazing. I immediately summoned the proto-drake and flew around Storm Peaks, showing it off. Totally worth the wait, even though it was a massive pain.
