Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokémon GO lately, really trying to optimize my teams. And it got me thinking about Oddish evolutions – specifically, Bellossom versus Vileplume. Which one’s better in the long run? I decided to put them to the test myself, and here’s how it went down.
The Great Evolution Experiment
First, I gathered a bunch of Oddish. I mean, a lot of Oddish. I spent days just walking around, catching every single one I could find. I used Pinap Berries like they were going out of style to max out that candy.

Once I had enough candy, I evolved a few into Gloom. This part was pretty straightforward, just the usual 25 candies. The real decision came next.
I picked one Gloom and used a Sun Stone (plus 100 candies, ouch!) to get a Bellossom. I made sure it had decent IVs before I committed to that Sun Stone – those things aren’t exactly growing on trees, you know?
Then, I took another Gloom and evolved it into Vileplume. This one just needed the 100 candies, no special item required. Again, I checked the IVs to make sure I was working with a solid contender.
The Battle Trials
Now for the fun part – actually using them! I started by throwing both Bellossom and Vileplume into some Gym battles. Just casual stuff, nothing too intense. I wanted to see how they handled different types of opponents.
I quickly noticed that Vileplume, with its Poison/Grass typing, had a bit of an edge against other Grass-types and Fairy-types. That Razor Leaf and Sludge Bomb combo did some serious damage. Bellossom, being pure Grass, felt a little more… limited. It was good against Water and Ground, sure, but it struggled against anything with Fire, Flying, or Poison moves.
Then I moved on to some Raid battles. This is where things got a little more interesting. Vileplume’s higher CP potential started to show. It could take a bit more punishment and dish out more consistent damage, especially in raids where its type advantages came into play.
Bellossom and Vileplume has diffenrent CP,For example:
- Bellossom:Max CP is 2274.
- Vileplume:Max CP is 2555.
I also tried them out in Trainer Battles (the PvP stuff). Honestly, neither of them were top-tier picks, there are lots of better Grass types. But, again, Vileplume felt slightly more versatile because of that Poison typing. It gave it some coverage that Bellossom just lacked.
My Verdict (For Now)
So, after all this, which one do I prefer? It’s tough, but I’m leaning towards Vileplume. That Poison typing and higher CP just give it a bit more oomph in most situations. Bellossom is cute and all, but it just feels a little underpowered compared to its… smellier… sibling.
Of course, this is just my experience. Your mileage may vary. It depends on what you need, what your local meta looks like, and what kind of battles you’re focusing on. But for my general-purpose teams, Vileplume is getting the nod.
