Okay, so I’ve been playing a lot of Pokemon lately, and Nidoking has been a real pain. I kept getting wrecked, so I knew I had to figure out the best way to take him down. Here’s how I went about it:
My Quest to Crush Nidoking
First, I jumped into some online battles to see what other people were using. I noticed a lot of Ground-types, which makes sense since Nidoking is a Poison/Ground-type, meaning he’s weak to Ground moves.

I also remembered the type chart – Psychic, Water, and Ice are also super effective against Nidoking. I started making a list of Pokemon I had that fit the bill.
- Ground-types: I had a Groudon,that was the obvious choice. Rhyperior,and swampert were others I considered.
- Psychic-types: Alakazam and Mewtwo were at the top of my list.I have Espeon.
- Water-types: Swampert came up again, good typing, Swampert has always been a reliable choice.
- Ice-types: I don’t use Ice-types a lot. I did have a Mamoswine, but I wasn’t sure.
I spent some time leveling up my Groudon and Swampert, making sure they had the best possible movesets. Groudon got Earthquake, and Swampert got, well, Earthquake, and Surf, just for coverage.
Then, I tested them out. I challenged some friends to battles and tried different strategies.I find Groudon worked like a charm! Earthquake was just one-shotting Nidokings left and right. My Swampert was pretty good, too, but Groudon was definitely the MVP.
I also experimented a bit with Alakazam. Psychic moves did decent damage, but Alakazam is so frail, it often fainted before it could really do much,so i give up.
So, after all that, my top recommendation for beating Nidoking is a strong Ground-type like Groudon. Swampert is a solid second choice if you need a Water-type, too. Just make sure they’re a high enough level and have powerful moves, and you should be good to go!
