Alright, guys, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, and I had a burning question: is Mega Houndoom any good? I mean, it looks super cool, all fiery and intimidating, but does it actually perform in battles?
So, first things first, I needed a Houndoom. I already had a pretty decent one, but it wasn’t quite strong enough for what I wanted. So I started hunting. I spent days, literally days, walking around, hitting up every PokeStop I could find, hoping for a Houndour to spawn. Finally, after what felt like a million encounters, I found one with pretty good IVs. It wasn’t perfect, but it would do.

Next up: candy. Lots and lots of candy. I used every Pinap Berry I had to maximize my candy gains. I even transferred a bunch of lower-level Houndours – sorry, little guys, it was for the greater good! Eventually, I had enough to evolve my Houndour into a Houndoom.
Then came the Mega Energy grind. This was the tough part. I took down every Mega Houndoom raid I could find. Sometimes I’d win with a big group, other times it was a nail-biter with just a few of us. It was a slow process, but I kept at it, raid after raid, slowly accumulating that precious Mega Energy.
Finally, I had enough! I mega-evolved my Houndoom, and wow. It looked even more awesome than I expected. But the real test was battling. I threw it into some raids against Grass and Psychic types – its best matchups. And let me tell you, it shredded. The damage output was insane. I was topping the damage charts in almost every raid.
I also tried it out in the Go Battle League. Now, it’s a bit of a glass cannon there – it hits hard, but it can’t take much punishment in return. I found it worked best in certain situations, like when I could switch it in against a Pokemon weak to its Dark and Fire attacks.
It performed well for these:
- Grass
- Psychic
- Ice
- Bug
- Steel
- Ghost
So, is Mega Houndoom good? My final verdict: heck yeah! It’s a beast in raids, and while it’s a bit niche in PvP, it can definitely pull its weight if you use it right. The grind to get there was real, but totally worth it in the end. The sense of accomplishment I have for finally powering up my own Mega Houndoom is pretty awesome.
