Okay, so I’ve been needing a better way to keep track of my ammo. You know, how much I have, what types, all that stuff. I’ve been jotting it down in a notebook, but honestly, it’s a mess. So I figured, why not make a spreadsheet? Seemed like the obvious solution.
First, I brainstormed what I wanted to track. Obviously, caliber was important. Then, I thought about brand, bullet weight, and whether it was FMJ, hollow point, or something else. I also wanted a column for the quantity I had on hand, and maybe a spot for notes, like where I bought it or if I had any issues with a particular batch.

Setting up the Spreadsheet
I decided to go with a simple setup in Google Sheets. Nothing too fancy. I created columns for:
- Caliber: (e.g., 9mm, .223, 12 gauge)
- Brand: (e.g., Federal, Winchester, PMC)
- Bullet Weight: (e.g., 115gr, 55gr, 00 Buck)
- Bullet type:(e.g., FMJ,HP)
- Quantity: (How many rounds I have)
- Notes: (Anything else I want to remember)
Then, I started filling it in. It was a bit tedious at first, going through all my ammo boxes and counting everything. But I have to finish it, I powered through. I even color-coded some of the rows, just to make it easier to read at a glance. For example, all my 9mm is in one color, .223 in another, and so on.
I think use some formulas to see my total of each caliber, but I just want simple is the best now.
After the counting, I input all my existing stock into the spreadsheet.
Now, whenever I buy or use ammo, I can quickly update the spreadsheet. It’s way better than my old notebook system. I can easily see what I’m running low on, and it helps me avoid buying more of something I already have a ton of. I can use the spreadsheet to help me organize my ammo storage. I keep all the same calibers together, with clear labels, so I can grab what I need quickly.
It might seem like a small thing, but having this spreadsheet has made my life a little easier. No more guessing games about how much ammo I have left! Highly recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a better way to organize your stash.
