Okay, folks, let’s talk about how I finally managed to consistently beat Kingdra in Pokemon Go battles. It took me a while, but I’ve got a system now, and I’m here to share it!
First off, I gotta admit, Kingdra used to wreck me. That Dragon/Water typing is tricky. I kept throwing my usual Dragon-killers at it, thinking, “Easy peasy!” Nope. My Dragonites, Salamence… they were getting shredded by Kingdra’s Hydro Pumps, and my own Dragon moves weren’t doing enough damage because of Kingdra’s Water resistance.

So, I started experimenting. A lot. I mean, a lot of trial and error. I went through my entire Pokemon roster, trying different combinations, checking their movesets, and seeing what stuck. I powered up a few promising candidates, even if they weren’t “meta,” just to see if I could find a hidden gem.
My “Eureka!” Moment
It finally hit me: I needed to focus on Pokemon that resisted both Dragon and Water moves. And that’s where Fairy-types came in.
- My Gardevoir, with Charm and Dazzling Gleam, became my MVP. Seriously, Charm just melts Kingdra. It’s super effective, and Gardevoir resists Dragon moves.
- I also had some luck with my Togekiss (also Charm and Dazzling Gleam). It’s a bit bulkier than Gardevoir, so it can take a few more hits.
- I,then, tried a Clefable, It works almost the same way.
I learned that it’s not just about type matchups, though. You also gotta pay attention to the moves. A fast move like Charm is crucial because it builds up your charge move (Dazzling Gleam, in this case) super quickly. And you want that charge move ready to go as often as possible.
So, after many, many battles, lots of lost potions and revives, and a whole heap of frustration, I finally cracked the code. Now, when I see a Kingdra, I’m not scared. I’m ready. I send out my Gardevoir, spam Charm, fire off a Dazzling Gleam (or two!), and watch that seahorse faint. Victory!
