Okay, so I’ve been playing a TON of MLB The Show 24 lately, and let me tell you, the “freeze off” issue is a real pain. I wanted to share my experience and what I’ve tried to do about it. It’s not perfect, but maybe it’ll help someone else.
What Even is a Freeze Off?
Basically, it’s when the game just… freezes. Usually, it happens online, and neither player can do anything. You’re just stuck staring at the screen, hoping it’ll magically fix itself. It’s like a baseball game purgatory.
My First Freeze Off (and Many More)
I was crushing it in a Ranked Seasons game. Up by, like, five runs in the 7th inning. Feeling good, you know? Then, BAM. Freeze. I could see my opponent was still “there” (their icon was active), but nothing was happening. I waited… and waited… and waited. Nothing.
What I’ve Tried (with varying degrees of success)
Here’s the thing: there’s no guaranteed fix. But I’ve messed around with a few things:
- The Obvious: Waiting it Out. Sometimes, it actually unfreezes. I’ve had it happen after 5 minutes, 10 minutes, even 30 minutes once! But most of the time, it’s a lost cause.
- Messaging My Opponent. This is a long shot, but I’ve tried messaging the other player to see if they’re experiencing the same thing. Sometimes they don’t respond(rage quit maybe?), sometimes they are just as stuck as me.
- Turning My Controller Off and On. I don’t know why I thought this would work, but hey, I was desperate. It didn’t.
- Checking My Internet Connection. Even though everything else online was working fine, I still checked my router, reset it, the whole nine yards. Nope. Still frozen.
- Closing the ApplicationSometimes I felt very bad, because maybe if I insisted more time, the game would continue, but many times I ended up closing the application, it is frustrating to lose because of the freeze off.
The Sad Truth
Honestly, most of the time, I end up having to quit the game. It sucks, especially if you’re winning. You get the loss, and it’s super frustrating. I’ve seen people online say it might be related to server issues, or maybe even some kind of exploit, but who knows.
My biggest takeaway? Don’t get too attached to any one game online. If it freezes, give it a reasonable amount of time, but be prepared to cut your losses. It’s a bummer, but it’s part of the online experience, I guess.
