Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with my Pokémon Go account and figure out something that’s been bugging me for a while. I’m talking about Vileplume and Bellossom. Which one’s actually better in the game? I had a bunch of Oddish candy saved up, so I figured it was time to put it to good use and do some experimenting.
First things first, I grabbed my phone and opened up the Pokémon Go app. I checked my Pokémon storage and found a couple of decent Oddish I’d caught a while back. One had pretty good IVs, so I decided that was the one I’d evolve. I tapped on the Oddish, hit the evolve button, and boom – I had a Gloom. Now came the tricky part.

To get Vileplume, you just need to evolve Gloom with 100 Oddish candy. But for Bellossom, you also need a Sun Stone. I already had a few Sun Stones from spinning PokéStops, so that wasn’t a problem. I decided to evolve one Gloom into Vileplume first. Watched the little animation, and there it was, my brand new Vileplume.
Next, I took another Gloom and this time I used a Sun Stone along with the 100 Oddish candy. Waited for the evolution to finish, and bam, I had a Bellossom. Now that I had both, I started looking at their stats and moves.
Vileplume is a Grass/Poison type, and mine ended up with Razor Leaf and Moonblast as its moves. Bellossom, on the other hand, is a pure Grass type, and mine got Razor Leaf and Leaf Blade. Both are pretty good, but their stats were a bit different.
I then dove into some battles to see how they performed. I took them both to a few raids and tried them out in the Go Battle League. Honestly, both did pretty well, but they had different strengths.
My Findings
- Vileplume seemed better against Water and Fairy types, probably because of its Poison typing. Its Moonblast also packed a punch.
- Bellossom was a beast against other Grass types and did really well in sunny weather, thanks to its pure Grass typing and moveset.
After all this, I realized it’s not really about which one is “better” overall. It depends on what you need for your team. If you need something to counter Water types, Vileplume’s a solid choice. But if you want a strong Grass type, especially in sunny weather, Bellossom is the way to go.
So, that’s my little experiment for today. Spent a good chunk of my afternoon playing around with these evolutions, and it was pretty fun. Hope this helps anyone else trying to decide between Vileplume and Bellossom. Gotta catch ’em all, right?
