Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Madden 23 lately, trying to figure out the best running playbooks, you know, to really dominate on the ground. I gotta say, it’s been a bit of a journey, but I think I’ve finally cracked the code, or at least gotten close enough. Let me tell you all about it.
Getting Started
First off, I started by just diving into the game and experimenting. I tried out a bunch of different teams and their default playbooks, just to get a feel for what was out there. I played a few games with each, made some notes about what I liked and what I didn’t. It was a bit chaotic at first, not gonna lie.

Narrowing it Down
After a while, I started to notice some patterns. Certain playbooks just felt better for running the ball. I paid attention to the formations they used, the types of running plays they had, all that stuff. I jotted down the names of the playbooks that stood out to me. We’re talking the Ravens, the Titans, and the 49ers – these were the ones that really caught my eye early on.
Deep Dive
Then came the real work. I took each of those top playbooks and really put them through their paces. I spent hours in practice mode, running the same plays over and over, against different defenses. I was looking for the plays that consistently gained yards, the ones that were easy to read, and the ones that felt good to execute.
What I Found
- Ravens: This playbook is just a beast for running. The pistol formations are amazing, and they have so many options for read-options and power runs. It’s like, they built this thing for Lamar Jackson, and it shows.
- Titans: If you’re into that smashmouth, old-school football, this is your playbook. Derrick Henry is the perfect back for it. The I-form and strong formations are dominant, and they have a ton of plays where you can just pound the rock.
- 49ers: This one is more about finesse and misdirection. They have a lot of outside zone runs, tosses, and sweeps. It’s a great playbook if you have a speedy back who can get to the edge.
Putting it to the Test
Once I had a good handle on the best plays in each playbook, I started playing online games. This is where things really got interesting. I was facing real people, not just the AI, and I had to adapt my strategy on the fly. Some games I’d go heavy with the Ravens’ read-options, other games I’d just pound the ball with the Titans. I even mixed it up with the 49ers’ outside runs when I had the right matchup.
The Results
And you know what? It worked! I started winning more games. My rushing yards went way up. I was controlling the clock, wearing down defenses, and making big plays when it mattered most. It felt great to see all that practice paying off. Now, it is not perfect, and I am still learning new things every day. But, I feel like I have a really solid foundation now when it comes to running the ball in Madden 23. I’ll keep experimenting and refining my strategies, but for now, I’m pretty happy with where I’m at.
