I spent the whole day today messing with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, mainly trying to get that damn GA (Gentlemen’s Agreement) setup working right. It was a real pain in the ass, let me tell you.
Started With the Wrong Settings
First off, I jumped into the game thinking I could just wing it. Big mistake. I started a private match with some friends, and we just used the default settings. We quickly realized this was way off. We were running around with all sorts of overpowered stuff, and it was just chaos. No strategy, no skill, just pure mayhem. It was fun for like 5 minutes, then it got old real fast.

Looked Up the “Official” GA Rules
So, I decided to actually look up the proper GA rules. I found a bunch of different versions, some from pro players, some from forums, and it was all over the place. I guess there’s no “one true” GA, which is kind of annoying. There were the CDL’s rules and the ones for other ranked play tournaments, and so many people were debating online about which were the best!
Tried a Few Different Presets
- We tried one preset that someone posted on a forum. It banned a ton of weapons and attachments. Felt way too restrictive. It was like playing with water guns.
- Then we switched to another one that was supposedly based on what the pros use. This one was better, but still not quite right. Some of the perks and killstreaks were still a bit too much.
- There was another one with a much more open-ended rule set, but it took us forever to get all the settings configured in-game, and that was after some back and forth between my friends and me.
Finally Found a Sweet Spot
After hours of tweaking and testing, we finally settled on a custom setup that felt pretty balanced. We banned most of the overpowered stuff, like certain shotguns and LMGs, and we disabled some of the more annoying killstreaks. We also agreed on a few specific rules, like no using riot shields and no quickscoping with sniper rifles. We even limited what attachments we could use, just to keep things interesting. We took bits and pieces from those other rules we tried earlier and made our own version.
Actually Had Some Fun
Once we got the settings dialed in, the matches were actually a lot of fun. They were way more competitive and tactical than before. It felt like a completely different game. We were actually thinking about our loadouts and strategies, instead of just running around like headless chickens. It felt so much better than the default settings we tried at the start.
It was a frustrating day, but it was worth it in the end. Figuring out the right GA setup made a huge difference in how much we enjoyed the game. Now I just need to convince my buddies to stick with these rules and not change them every other day!
