Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this whole Leela from Futurama thing. You know, the one-eyed captain? I thought it’d be a fun little project to recreate some of her outfits.
First, I gathered a bunch of pictures of Leela. I scrolled through tons of episodes and screenshots to get a good look at her different outfits. She’s got that classic white tank top and purple pants combo, but there are a few variations.

The Classic Outfit
For the classic look, I found a plain white tank top. Pretty easy, right? Then, the purple pants. I searched a bit but ended up just buying some fabric and made them myself. I’m not a pro sewer or anything, but they turned out okay! I added a black belt and some black boots I already had, and that was basically it for the base outfit.
- Got a white tank top
- Made purple pants
- Used a black belt
- Wore black boots
The Details
The wristband was a little trickier. I grabbed some metallic-looking fabric and fashioned a simple band. It’s not perfect, but it does the job. And of course, the eye! I considered a few options, but I ended up drawing a big eye on some cardboard, cutting it out, and attaching it to a headband. It looks a bit goofy, but hey, it’s Leela!
I also tried to do her ponytail. My hair isn’t quite long enough, so I used a hair tie to get it as high as possible. It’s not exactly the same, but it gives the right vibe.
Other Outfits
Besides the classic look, I also attempted her space suit. I found an old white jumpsuit and modified it a bit. I added some gray patches and made a little control panel thingy out of cardboard and buttons. It’s pretty rough, but it was fun to put together.
Overall, it was a fun little project! It’s not like I’m going to wear these outfits out in public, but it was cool to see how I could recreate Leela’s look with stuff I mostly had at home or could make myself. I even took some pictures to document the process. It was a good time, and I learned a thing or two along the way. Maybe I will try another cartoon character next time!
