Alright, so I’ve been getting really into the PvP scene in Pokémon Go lately, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different ball game compared to just catching ’em all. I wanted a solid Water-type Pokémon, and Poliwrath seemed like a good choice. It’s got that dual Water/Fighting typing, which I figured could be pretty handy.
So, first things first, I needed a good Poliwag. I spent a few days just catching every Poliwag I could find. I used Pinap Berries to max out that candy. You need a bunch of Poliwag candy to evolve it all the way up, and then even more to power it up and unlock a second charge move. A real pain, I have to say.

Eventually, I got a Poliwag with some pretty decent IVs, you know, good Attack, Defense, and HP. Not perfect, but good enough for me. Then came the grind to get it to Poliwrath. I evolved it to Poliwhirl, then finally to Poliwrath. That King’s Rock was a bit of a pain to get, but I spun enough Pokéstops and finally got lucky.
Now, the real work began. I needed to figure out the best moves for Poliwrath in PvP. After doing some testing, and a lot of losing matches, I realized that the fast move Mud Shot was the way to go. It charges up energy like crazy, so I could use my charge moves more often. That’s the key in PvP, spamming those charge moves.
For the charge moves, it got tricky. I spent a lot of time (and Stardust) trying different combinations. At first, I went with Scald, for that debuff chance, and also Dynamic Punch, for that fighting move. That combo was OK, but I could do better. Some people like Ice Punch for a surprise, but I don’t know. Finally, I found a set I like. I kept Dynamic Punch, but I switched Scald for Icy Wind. Icy Wind also has a debuff, it always drops the opponent’s Attack, which is awesome. I can use it a lot since Mud Shot gets energy so fast.
Getting Good in Battles
Once I had the moveset sorted, it was time to actually get good at battling. I practiced a lot in the Go Battle League, and man, it was tough at first. I lost a bunch of matches, but slowly started to figure things out. Learning when to shield, when to switch Pokémon, and how to bait shields – it’s all part of the game. I am still learning, but I am getting better.
- Practice: I can’t stress this enough. You gotta battle a lot to get better.
- Watch Others: I watched some YouTube videos of people battling with Poliwrath. It helped me learn some tricks.
- Team Building: Poliwrath is good, but you need other good Pokémon to go with it. I’m still trying to find the best team.
It took a while, but I’m finally starting to see some success with my Poliwrath. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely rewarding. I am starting to win more than I lose, which is nice. I’m not a top player or anything, but I’m having fun, and that’s what counts. I am happy with my Poliwrath. If you’re thinking about building a Poliwrath for PvP, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in the work. It is a long process, but worth it in the end.
