Alright, so I’ve been grinding away in Path of Exile for what feels like forever, and I finally hit that sweet, sweet level 100. Man, what a journey! I figured I’d share my experience, ’cause it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
First off, I started by picking my build. I went with a Righteous Fire Chieftain, seemed pretty tanky and I liked the idea of just burning everything around me. I followed some guides online, but honestly, I kinda just winged it for a good chunk of the early game. Leveled through the acts, did a few labs, the usual stuff.

Things started getting real around level 70. Maps were getting tougher, and I was dying more than I’d like to admit. I started to feel like my character didn’t do much damage, so I focused on getting better gear and got the hang of the crafting system a little better to improve my gear for more survivability. The crafting system is pretty difficult in this game, it took a while to learn, but it was very rewarding once I figured it out.
- Farming Currency: I spent a good amount of time just running maps and doing basic content to gather currency. Chaos orbs, Exalted orbs, all that good stuff. It was a grind, but necessary.
- Upgrading Gear: I learned pretty quickly that my gear was trash. I started looking for upgrades, focusing on life, resistances, and anything that boosted my damage. This was probably the biggest difference-maker.
- Optimizing Gems: I realized I was using some pretty suboptimal gems. I paid more attention to support gems and how they interacted with my main skills. It took a lot of trial and error to find out what did the best damage for me, and what was just a waste of a socket.
Then came the real challenge – the push from 90 to 100. This is where things got brutal. Every death meant losing experience, and at those higher levels, it’s a LOT of experience. I had to really buckle down and focus.
The Final Push
I started doing 5-ways, which was tough but gave a ton of experience. It was super efficient for experience farming, but it wasn’t cheap, and it definitely required me to get into a party to complete them effectively. It got repetitive after a while, but it was the only way I was going to make it to 100. If I had tried to do it solo, I probably would have lost my mind, not to mention it probably would have taken me 10 times longer.
Finally, after countless hours, I saw it – that beautiful “Level Up!” message. Level 100. I actually cheered out loud, my wife thought I was crazy. It was a grind, but man, it felt good.
So yeah, that’s my story of hitting max level in Path of Exile. It took time, and many mistakes, but I did it eventually. Hope this was helpful, or at least entertaining! Good luck to anyone else out there trying to reach the top!
