Okay, so today I tried my hand at making a Jack Skellington skin, you know, the Pumpkin King from “The Nightmare Before Christmas”? Yeah, that guy. I’ve always been a big fan of the movie, and I figured, why not try to bring a little bit of Halloween Town into my blocky world?
First off, I gathered some reference images. I just googled “Jack Skellington” and looked at a bunch of pictures to get a good idea of what I was working with. He’s mostly black and white, which is pretty straightforward, but getting the details right was key.

Then, I fired up my skin editor. I’ve been using this one online editor. It’s super simple and lets you see your skin in 3D as you work on it.
I started with the body. Jack’s suit is basically a black suit with white pinstripes, so I filled the whole body area with black. Then, I added those thin white lines, trying to make them look like pinstripes. It took some trial and error to get them spaced out evenly. It looked pretty messy at first, but eventually, it started to resemble a suit. The stripes are really thin, so you’ve got to be careful not to make them too thick or too far apart.
- Started with the head next.
- Jack’s head is a skull, so it’s all white.
- I filled in the whole head area with white.
- Then came the tricky part – the eyes and mouth.
- His eyes are just big, black, empty sockets. I made these by just coloring a couple of squares on each side of the head with black.
The mouth was a bit harder. It’s that iconic stitched-up smile. I tried to recreate it by drawing a thin black line across the lower part of the face and then adding some little vertical lines to make it look like stitches. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the idea across.
I also added his bow tie, which looks like a bat. I just drew a simple bat shape on the front of the suit, right below the head. Filled it in with black, and it looked pretty good!
Finishing Touches
After I had all the major parts done, I spent some time refining things. I went over the pinstripes again to make sure they were neat. Also I cleaned up any stray pixels around the eyes and mouth. I wanted it to look as polished as possible. Honestly, this took forever. I kept going back and forth, making tiny adjustments. But I think it paid off.
Finally, I saved my skin and uploaded it. Seeing Jack Skellington running around in my game was so cool! It’s not a masterpiece or anything, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely recognizable as Jack, and that’s what I was going for.
