So, I was having this annoying issue with my ping while playing Call of Duty. It was driving me crazy! I mean, who likes getting shot before they even see the enemy, right? So, I decided to get to the bottom of it and fix this mess.
First thing I did was a simple network reboot. You know, the classic turn-it-off-and-on-again trick. I unplugged my router and modem, waited for like 30 seconds, and plugged them back in. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to clear up any network hiccups.

Next, I tried switching to a wired connection. Yeah, I know, wires are so last century, but trust me, they’re way more stable than Wi-Fi. I grabbed an Ethernet cable and plugged my PC directly into the router. It’s not always practical, but it’s worth it for a smoother gaming experience.

Then, I started looking at what else was using my internet. I closed down any background apps that were hogging bandwidth. You know, stuff like streaming services, torrent clients, and those pesky automatic updaters. Turns out, my little brother was downloading a huge game update in the background! No wonder my ping was through the roof.

After that, I fiddled with the in-game settings. I lowered some of the graphics settings, like texture quality and shadows. I’m not a graphics snob, so I didn’t mind sacrificing a bit of visual fidelity for better performance. And it seemed to help a bit, too!
Finally, I even considered using a game booster. I’m not usually one for these kinds of tools, but I was desperate. I did some research, found one that seemed legit, and gave it a try. I’m not sure if it made a huge difference, but my ping did seem a little more stable after using it. I guess it’s just like, making sure those “game packets” get priority. And maybe optimising some of the routing?
In the end, my ping is way better now. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely playable. I’m not lagging all over the place anymore, and I can finally hold my own in those intense firefights. Hopefully, these tips will help some of you out there who are struggling with high ping in Call of Duty. Happy gaming, folks!
