Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about something called “drastic skins.” I’ve been messing around with this emulator called DraStic on my phone to play some old DS games, and I found out you can actually change how the on-screen buttons and stuff look. Pretty neat, huh?
First things first, I gotta say, getting these skins is totally free. No need to spend any money, which is always a plus in my book.

So, how do you do it? Well, first I fired up DraStic and loaded one of my games. Then, I tapped on the menu button and went to “edit screens and virtual pad.” There are a few different layouts you can pick, so I just chose the one I wanted to tweak.
Now, for the skins, I downloaded a bunch of them from some forum. They came in a zip file, so I had to unzip them on my phone using a file manager app. After that, I copied the unzipped skin folder to the DraStic folder on my phone’s storage. It was something like “storage/emulated/0/DraStic/backgrounds”. Your folder path may be different, please check it yourself.
Once the skin files were in the right place, I went back to the “edit screens and virtual pad” menu in DraStic. I found an option to choose a background, and I just selected the skin I had just copied over. Boom! The buttons changed, and it looked way cooler.
I played around with a few different skins. Some were just different colors, while others completely changed the look of the buttons. One even made it look like an actual DS, which was pretty awesome.
The main steps were like these:
- Download some skins.
- Unzip them on my phone.
- Copy them to the DraStic backgrounds folder.
- Select the new skin in the DraStic settings.
It’s a really simple way to customize your DraStic experience. If you’re into that kind of thing, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. It’s like giving your emulator a little makeover. And who doesn’t love a good makeover? Anyways, that’s all for today’s little experiment. Hope you found it helpful!
